If changing from Army to Navy or vice versa, you have to buy both the backstrap & trigger guard.  And as HH said, buy Uberti for Uberti, Pietta for Pietta, etc..  Very few Uberti and Pietta parts are interchangeable.

It's likely that the replacements won't be an exact/precise fit, as these are parts that are fitted to each gun.  But the fit should be close enough to be functional.

Seth

I have actually swapped the complete grip frame on a number of Pietta's, ASM's and Uberti's that looked and "felt" like they belonged ;D
I believe the manufacturing process for these Italian guns has precluded the hand work from grip strap/trigger guard to frame. BUT the grip is sanded into the trigger guard/grip strap and that's why I change the whole unit.

Please don't take this as the end all - be all, but understand my experience in the SWAP has been good.

I've always been partial to the silver plated gripstraps. Most of my shootin irons are so.

Abilene

Seth, I sent the gripframes to Bar-S to fit the grips.  They have frames there.  In fact, they have no FFL so they can't receive an entire gun anyway (except C&B).  The fitting is included in the price - good thing because they ain't cheap  ;)

For you folks wanting to change Navy grips to Arny and vice-versa, if you don't necessarily care to be able to change the gun back to the way it was, just advertise what you want (versus just ordering a new gripframe and grip) and likely there is someone out there who wants to do the opposite and will swap with you!

Abilene,

Bob Taylor's guns are after my own heart.  Short.  My Open Tops have barrel sets in .45, .44 & .38, all cut to the ejector housing.  That results in a barrel 4 7/16 long.  I absolutely love the balance of the short barrels.  So ............. I also cut the barrels of my '51 Navy conversions to the ejector housing.  Same result ...... instant lust!!
My first set of short conversion barrels were/are ASM 1860 conversions.  Same thing, cut to the ejector housing.  Resulted in barrels 5 inches long, with excellent balance.  Absolutely love them too.
Then, a friend on the wire decided to sell his 7 1/2 inch Navy R-M barrels, and I thought I really needed a set of barrels for the Navy conversions full length.  Sort of "al la" Hickock.  Surprisingly, I really like 'em.
Several of my shooting friends and customers say I should change my alias to "Hacksaw" 'cause Inever met a barrel too short!!!! ;D
I may just have to add a set with the Thunderer grip frame.  I have a nickel pair of Thunderers with the appropriate barrels (3 1/2 inch) and really like the grip frame.  Works really well for a Gunfighter.  Give me a good excuse for another set of guns ::) ::) ::)
The only improvement I could suggest for yours,  if to stuff 'em in MY holsters!!

Abilene

Coffinmaker, just send me your holsters and I will stuff these guns into them for a few matches.  I aim to please.  :D

Coffinmaker

Abilene,

Well I certainly could, but ................. the idea was I would shoot YOUR revolvers for a few matches ......... out of my holsters of course.  I would provide tender loving care ....... of course!! ;D
