A while back, I had bought a used Felix Saraqueta mule ear coach gun, only to realize that the effort to cock the hammers was a bit much. I did finally find someone who tried to lighten up the hammer pull, but since there are no spare parts to be had, he was more than a little conservative with how much he took off the springs (this is NOT a slam on him; I don't blame him). Okay, stiff hammer pull is one thing, but I'm starting to think that the real problem is the size of the thumb spurs on the hammers. These things are so small that combined with the stiff cocking effort, they are just killing my thumbs.

Which brings me to my next stoopid question (and y'all thought you could get through the holidays without one from me!). Do any of you know of a gunsmith that has the capability to put new hammers on this thing, preferrably hammers with a LARGE thumb spur? The gun is a nice little shooter, and I don't want it to turn into a "closet queen." but if I don't do something with the hammers, that is about what's gonna happen.

Thank you all in advance.

Matt, You maybe able to find a new set of hammers from a different brand of hammer gun that will work. Have your gunsmith measure the "lug" area where the hammer fits on the lock then give GunParts Corp a call to see if they have anything hat is close or that may be modified to work on your shotgun. You may get lucky and find something that will work that won't cost more than the shotgun. Good Luck

Matt,

You might check with Dixie Gun Works.  A gunsmith might be able to weld some bigger ones on the hammers that you have.  Good luck!
