Shooting my Henrys has become tough with 60 years old eyes... :-[ I'm OK at CAS distance, but out there a piece
has gone off.

I know there was a thread, where someone asked about or replied about Buckhorn rear replacement sights.
danged if I can find it.

Seem to remember it was ready made finished sight that slid right in to the Uberti OEM Dovetail.

Was it Track Of the Wolf ? ...and would you have the part # ?

Why not a tang sight?   Diopter sights are much more forgiving for us ocularly challenged.

I tried SCOPE on a deer rifle an got a permanant scar over ma eye ta prove it :-[  Lot's of laughs from the others at the range as well.  Figgured it out right quick but still prefer open sights.  I hope tang sites will do well enough fer me once the eyes start goin.  That or what's shown in the link.

I have a set on my Hawkens Flinter, thats got me to figering...they work

But no not on a Henry

Mostly I use the sight as a ghost ring and ignore the notch at the bottom. I have the notch sighted for 100 yards so if a fine, longer shot is reqiured I can make it.  For CAS I just put the front sight on the target and pull the trigger (kind of a controled jerk) I seldom miss a rifle target.  I am 64 but since my cataract surgery I am kind of far sighted and can't focus on most open sights.  The Track of the Wolf sight works fine me.

That's why I like Colt's open top design..they point so well at CAS distance, just put the front sight on the big plate and DING.
The Henry's length helps here too... but out there a bit...I find I need to take extra time to sorta ease into a sight picture.

I think the Buckhorns will offer me the quicker sight picture as it seem to do on the Hawkens

Howdy

I installed the Track of the Wolf sight on my Henry. It was a bit loose in the dovetail, so I added a thin shim underneath to snug it up. I altered the shape of the 'horns' a little bit with a file to suit my taste, and touched up the raw metal with a Sharpie. Seems to me I also had to stretch out the little compression spring under the elevation adjustment screw a bit to get the elevation setting to stay in place. This sight is inexpensive, because it does not have the high polish and finish of the Marbles line of sights. But it is completely serviceable, I have been using it for two years now.

I too ignore the notch at the bottom of the sight and use it more or less as a ghost ring. I center the front sight between the horns, with the top of the front sight blade somewhere inside the horns. That's why I needed to raise the sight a bit. With that sight picture, as long as I place the front sight blade someplace on the target I will hit it. It's pretty quick, and much easier to see than the stock sight that came on the rifle.

Regarding trying out somebody else's rifle that already has it installed: Good luck. I have not run into anybody else in my neck of the woods that has installed one, I doubt anybody else will either. It is not a very common installation on Henrys. I just went ahead and spent the money and popped it in place. It was not difficult, or expensive.

That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Major 2,

The sight offered by Track of the Wolf works well, I've installed several.  Also, Nate Kiowa Jones @ stevesgunz has a rather nice rear sight.  I don't remember what Nate gets for it, but it also works well on a Henry.
I personally prefer a "flat" sight, or actually more of an "express" profile.  I added a little dab of brass to the front sight and cut the rear sight to a shallow "V" like an express.  Put the brass blob on top of the "v" and set it off.  It is very quick.  Cheap too.

Long Johns Wolf

Major: on my other .44 Colt Henry the original rear sight was moved forward a bit. It is much easier on the old eyes now.
