Fox Creek Kid, you got me hooked. I read the relevant text in McDowell's book yesterday. If I got it right these are 1860 Colt Armies, probably converted in Mexico to .44 Colt cal, with a modified RM conversion ring & inside spring loaded gate, the barrel lug profile altered to the 1861 Navy conversion style. Barrel length found are 8", 5,5" and shorter. Most are engraved, plated and have fancy grips.
Now, the McDowell book is from 1997. This would imply that the research presented there is based on ca. 1995 knowledge. Is there any updated information available on these mystery conversions from other sources that I can study to get a broader idea?
Any little bit of information will help...and I may end up eventually with another Centaure conversion project.
Thanks for your help, pards & pardettes.

No way, DM: that pistol is too valuable. Because these 3rd variations regular NMAs were only sold on your side of the big pond, none here. She will have her place of honor in my collection.

;D ;D ;D She's all boxed up (not sealed yet) and ready to set sail across the pond to your door.  Bon Voyage,  my briefly held 3rd variations regular NMA!
