Do You Shoot Groups?

As part of your regular practice?

I didn't until very recently.  Since I started I've noticed that it's much easier to find my sights at high speed and keep them on target.  I'm shooting faster and more accurately as a result.

Shoot groups with the goal of making them tighter.  Approach this the same as the rest of your practice session.

I think the reason is that it makes you much more aware of them and their relationship to the target as you fire the gun.

Shoot a couple of 10 shot groups on a 15 yard target at the end of each practice session and see what it does.  Report back!

Oh, groups. Not groups of liberals or something. I am working on that. I shoot each week with a group (whew) of pards that practices differenc scenarios at a private indoor range. We start shooting groups and end the session the same way. My accuracy is getting better.

Marshal, I'd like to suggest a change to your practice sessions if I might be so bold. By starting your practice shooting groups, you are missing an opportunity to practice shooting a stage cold.

I'm gonna start another topic on this right now.

I appreciate the input, Doc. The group isn't exclusively Cowboy, so I just follow along with their way of doing things. All practice is good, and for stage shooting, I like what you suggest. Thanks for the feedback. I'll check the other thread, too.

Great idea if you get a chance to PRACTICE.  My practice is my shooting at an event.   :(  That is why I usually suck when I shoot.  But at least I have fun.

When I get to practice I usually start with shooting groups, just to warm up and try to get in a rhythm.  Then I'll practice some stage shooting.

Since I'm going out to practice tomorrow, I'll start off with some mock stage shooting (to practice shooting a stage cold) and end the day with some shooting for groups.  In between I'll work on the routne stuf....like transitions, shotgun loading (pulling more than one shell at a time!!!), and the like.  That should make me well-rounded.
