My Homemade Bowie, now I need to make a sheath-Pic Heavy

Hey,
Got an old corn knife from my Mother-in-law's barn.  I patiently shaped and cleaned the blade, added a guard and made the handle from a piece of cherry from a branch that blew down a couple of years ago on the farm.  Now I will start the best part, making a sheath.  Its a beast, the blade is just shy of 12" and the overall is ~16".

Nice job, Mogorilla - an excellent rendition of a large transitional southern knife! If you chose to add a "D" guard ...

Any ideas for the sheath yet.......FWIW - on those big blades I really like the vegtan core covered with rawhide (deer or elk is best IMO) - it makes for a very stiff and skookum sheath and look good too.......

My original thought on the sheath was a mexican loop variety, with an inlaid Rahide Texas Star on the strap.   But now you guys got me thinking, which as my wife will attest is a dangerous thing .   I also have two more knives in the works so I think some sheath research is in order.
