I was wondering if any of you leather crafters out there also do firearm ingraving?  If so, would you consider firearm engraving to be a somewhat similar art to leather crafting?

thanks!

I never tried my hand at engraving but I've thought about it. I did do some wood carving and applied what I could from my experience tooling leather and the result was nice. Same patterns, different tools. I'd think engraving would be similar but again somewhat different. It would take a bit of practice on some smaller (read: cheaper) stuff before tackling a $2000+ sixgun, though.

I think the Marshall is on the money. The designs are the same. Baroque and Rococo design elements in both engraving and leather carving.
I don't know anything about $2000.oo six guns though. That would certainly make me nervous. I only have $600.oo and less six guns. I think I would be afraid ta shoot a high dollar pistol like that.
Anyways, good luck on yer project. There are a plenty good books on how to engrave guns. One real good one that I would recommend is not a how to do book but a real nice wish book.
Ya ever see a book called, "Steel Canvas"?  :o

The brown one is made by the Jackson Hole Hat Co. Come to think of it, the grey one is made by them, too. They're good hats.
