i've been meaning to try this myself hear shortly by taking a 3" conversion cylinder and the 2 different shells listed you can have alot of fun and variety of weekend shooting.2-1/2" .410 shells, and 45 lc ammo ARE interchangeable in one cylinder the .410 mikes out to a .457 and 45lc mikes to a .454,as always check it for yourself to see if your complies(diff. manuf.).

*oh, and it juices too! :o

There's now a Kirst Konverter cylinder available for the Walker Colt repros.  http://www.kirstkonverter.com/dragoons.html  I had a good look at the prototype at "Fire in the Hills" when Walt Kirst was there in person.  From what I could see, I'm not sure that it would chamber .410 shells.  I don't think the cylinder is that long.  I'm pretty sure that some all brass shot shells could be made up from Magtech .410 shells.  Also, there's a chance that .444 Marlin brass could do the job.

I wasn't kidding, although I was a mite tongue in cheek, about the Tarus Judge.  I've looked at these and with a Six inch barrel they would make an effective hand held shotgun with a mix of 45 Colt and .410 ammo mixed in the chambers.  More or less a modern 'buck & ball' arrangement.  Definitely now Cowboy, but cool anyway.

morning sir,if i remember correctly the standard c&b cylinder is 3",do you think that the kirst is less than that?i also remeber that the dragoon is a 1/2" less in length than the walker. so if we use 2-1/2" shells or go your way and use .444 marlin we might be able to pull this off if you wanted.i look more into it sir.i have a post that i researched about bp versus modern gun ballistics that i've done,it wasbased on the 45 bp versus the modern 45acp that alot of people carry nowadays i would appreciate it if i could get your input on this.

37 grain load/138gr.=.451rb bulllet/1030fps@325ft.lbs

(magtech cowboy load) cartridge

(ultramax cowboy ammo)

(colt walker 9" barrel)
50 grain load/141gr.=.454rb bulllet/1200fps@450ft.lbs!!!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
modern gun ballistics

(wolf gold line ammo)
45 lng. colt 185grn. bullet 935fps@355ft.lbs

(cci blazer ammo)
45 lng. colt 230grn. bullet 830fps@352ft.lbs

(winchester pistol usa ammo)
45 lng. colt 230grn. bullet 835fps@356ft.lbs

(remington handgun ammo)
45 lng. colt 230grn. bullet 835fps@356ft.lbs

(hornady ammo)

i'm sure everyone has something to add to this, especially if you roll your own,but i found this info interesting, and next time i'm at the range and someone says those things(bp)aren't potent and are just for fun,i'll have this data to back it up.

nice to finally meet you paladin i was really surprised to as how close the 2 calibers are and the 45acp is supposed to be the "heavy weight" caliber that experts rave about.some may scoff at this but facts don't lie.

The cylinder is probably long enough, but like almost all revolver cylinders, it will havea step in it to prevetn "too long" ammo (in this case .454 casull) from being chambered (and blowing the sucker up).  That would prevent the .410 from chambering as well, unless ya either severely cut back the shells, OR, reamed the step out of the chamber, boring it straight through (no more chamber throat for .45, which may mean accuracy issues).

thanks jack,a thought if i may?,if the walker has a 3" cylinder would using 2-1/2" shells work?,also dd mentioned using a .444 marlin shell whats your thoughts?
