 >:(I am starting to  get a little worried here. I am not getting as good of accracy that I think I should with my .45-75 Chappy.  I have tried differnt powders Goex and Pyrodex. Differnt bullets, cast from A Lee mould and jacketed. I use Buffalo arms cut brass and necked down .50 alasken. Hand lube and wad and grease cookie. And I still only 4 " groups at 50 yards low and the left. Am I wrong to been worried? Any help ???

McLernon

In view of the fact that I started with 18 to 24 inch groups with my Pedersoli at 50 yards and now get about 3 t0 6 inches at 100 yards with factory sights I'd say don't worry yet. Have you slugged your barrel out?; how many grease grooves?, did you let the barrel get hot?, did you use a blow tube?; what bullet diameter?; what alloy?; quality of boolits?........these are all things to take into account.

When you get all these things working together you will probably do much better.

The 3-6 inch groups that I am referring to were achieved with two grease grooves, .459 boolit with slugged .457 barrel, 5% tin 95 % lead alloy and 1/16 inch SPG grease cookie. I let the barrel get fairly hot and did not use a blow tube and cleaned after 10 rounds.   Tomorrow I will be using a 3 GG boolit(350 gr.) no grease cookie, 1/32 milk carton wad and I will be keeping the barrel  c-o-o-o-l and using a blow tube inbetween shots. The boolit I use a BACO 350 gr .459 dia 3GG with SPG lube crimped into the crimp groove.

I will post my results.

I agree with Mc - too early to worry yet, and too many factors to play with when working up BP loads. ;)

One thing you might try just to eliminate some of the factors, is to try some loads with smokeless and see it there is improvement.  Another quick check is to make sure the crown is square to the bore.  These rifles have a flat cut crown, rather than a conventional one, and it must be square to the bore.
