I made this holster for a friend of mine. It isn't sewn yet or burnised, I did treat the inside, it is dyed with vinagoon, made out of scrap! I hope the pic shows up good so you guys can see, there isn't any treatment on the outside because I am having him wer mold it and put the finish! I don't remember the texture of the leather looking like it does, but it had to be I would think?

look at it and tell me if after it is fitted and dry and then treated, will it close the grain up some??

Hi Ace,

You put that flower together nicely with only two stamps. I like the color and the texture. It looks old. I think after the piece is burnished and finished it won't be quite so rough though. I wouldn't let it concern me. Nice job and well done. If he don't like it throw it on my bunk. ;)

Cheers,

:)Thanks Guy's for the kuddo's, I didn't post for any praise, i guess I just panic because I wasn't think clear about how it will look when he treats it! He wanted it plain to match his other holsters! Sorry Slim, I didn't steal your flower, he wanted it to match, and I had both sizes of that petal so I use the small one. I am going to finish it tomorrow, get it sewn, true up the edges and burnisk it, I think it will work! Steve is a nice Guy!! And I begged him to let me make that for him!  He paid my membership to SASS out of the BLUE, I quess he just thought i needed to belong, and this is one way to pay him back a little.
I have said this a lot, and i am going to say this again, CAS Pards are the best folks in the world, hands down!!! :)

Santee, that is Vingagroon! If you guys want the best stuff to make it, stop by a Midas or Sears Auto Center and ask them if you can have a can of the brake rotor shaving. No burning no cleaning, 1 1/2 table spoon(what I mean is the spoon you put in the masked potatos) put that in a clean 2 litre bottle add 3/4 full of vinager put the lid on tight, shake it upside down and so about 4 times each night for 2 weeks, and Bingo! Nicest looking Black you can get! Hope this helps!
I only hope I can get my Walnut Brown to have that special color that WG & CB get!

Ace, I think that holster looks great as is. With finish it will look even better. You need to remember that leather products are individuals. No one thing will be exactly the same as another. Especially when trying to match an existing piece. Nice work and great improvement in a short time! WTG. DM

The pards here are right. That'll look just as good after all the molding is done. Good job.

Howdy Ace,
Thats a very neat and clean looking holster! Real nice workmanship! Thanks for posting this.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

 :)Thanks again guys!
I realy thank all of you pards for the help you have gave me to learn and improve the art of leatherwork.
Not allways do you have to tell someone how to improve but, when you guys post pic's of ypur work a person like me will study the peice you have shared with us, and then I will ask my self why doesn't mine look that way? So I will study your work and see, what that I am not doing or what I am doing wrong! ??? ::)
My biggest problem was getting into a hurry ::) and then seeing what you have done in certain area's and then doing that to my  peices that I see you pards do, that improve the looks :)

I want to thank all of you folks, and please keep posting those AWESOME peieces, so rookies like me can learn!

I am great full to have friends like all of you in my life! :) :)

QuoteI only hope I can get my Walnut Brown to have that special color that WG & CB get!

Just to keep things straight - not everything I dye brown is done with walnut - I use Fiebings regular dyes frequently as well - it all depends on the "look" I am going for. Also my work is aged so it's not just a simple one step dye job - putting a finish on my work can sometimes take days of dying, removing dye, re-dying with a different color, and so on and so on.......There's no way I can offer and exact process because it's never the same twice and is not an exact process......Hope this clears things up......

As for the crackled look you got on this piece -- that sometimes happens when using vinegaroon - usually on the imported leather.....to me it looks good!

Thanks Chuck,
i am great full for your reply and further explaintion on your coloring! It just seems that you and W.G. on a lot of you deep rich brown color! If I could put it into words I would but there isn't a work to decribe apperence, other than it reminds me of a super quaility made saddle that has been used everday for 50 years, but cleaned and treated after every use? And that doesn't explain very good! ???
And most likely Chuck, you are right about that leather peice being made out of import leather, it was in that first batch of scrap I bought! ::) It was could stuff to be learning on! I no longer will be getting anymore of that.

Thanks Again for your reply!
