Kirst Fitment Question 1862 Police

I have a question that I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with. I just received a Kirst ported conversion for 1851 Navy. It is used, but in excellent shape in 38LC. I plan on using this on my new Pietta 1862 Army Police. It is built on the 1851 frame. Fits great, but I cannot fully cock the hammer. Cylinder locks up great, but the hammer cannot travel far enough rearward to engage the trigger. I'm thinking that the hand is too long. Of course, everything works fine with the three c&b cylinders, but I'm really wanting to convert this revolver. Otherwise, I will have to buy or build a loading stand as the short loading lever is a real pain. If I don't have the barrel on, then the hammer will travel as it should, but it pushes the cylinder forward on the arbor.

So what do you think? Should I try removing some off of the hand?
