Making the the GT was easy after I did lots of research!! I have done queit a bit of research and have learned a lot but not what I needed! I sure found out how to make a finishing butter, but you have to get right on it with neetsfoot oil!! So I tried another formula and it was better! Then one more! I liked it real well, but before I go telling everone how to make it, i have a little chemistry work to do. If I find out this one ingredent isn't harmfull to the leather we got here whipped. I am also going to render down some off my own neets foot oil, a good friend of mine owns te local meat proccessing plant here in town and he is going to say me the fat ooff of the lower partof the feet of the next bunch of calves come threw.

i know it is a great thing to go to a leather shop and buy a quart of finish and go on! But like the old saying goes, I got a whole lot more time than I do money, and I feel that when I make something that works, it is a great success for me. The old leather guys in the 1800's couldn't call  Tandy and Order a quart of Fiebing"Tan Kote, so they had to use what they could make, and I have seen some holster that are close to 100 years old, and if they would of had a treament put on them every year, most likely they would look as good as new! I have no way to prove that, but that is just my thoughts
Just like the TW, as soon as I get a good finisn completed and know it works without harming the leather I wil post it, or have Marshal Will put it in the right place!
It makes me no diff if anyone wants to use the stuff I mixed up or not, i do it because it is a chanlledge and i don't what to spend $50.00 on 2 quarts of chemicals wen I can make 2 quarts for $5.00!

Hope you all injoyed the reading!

Good post, there's something to be said for making your own supplies. I don't think I'm up to tanning hides, though. ;D

MW, If I was 25 years younger and had a good back, I give it a try, just to help The GREAT PEOPLE on this forum, I know it is HARD WORK but that is all I use to know, but not know, Itryed to pull on a draw knife the other day and felt like someone run a hot poker down my spine and my right leg. So I will stick to buying my leather>
Talk to you later!
