Howdy, pards!

Well, another great shoot is over.   :(

We Darksiders were many and the pure, white smoke was ... blown away quickly by the constant "very brisk" wind in our faces.  The wind was so efficient at blowing away the smoke that we could actually see the targets easily!

We had a great time, thanks to many who worked hard to make the 2008 a most memorable event!

If you like BP, NCOWS is top-heavy with those of us who shoot the "old way" and the shoots take on an entirely different sound!  However, to be fair, the folks shooting that fad smokeyless powder also had a great time and did well.

I'm STILL not sure whether that smokeyless stuff will ever catch on ...

;)

Take care, and ...

Keep yer powder dry!

PS - one of the coolest things that happened was when Dave "Jed Cooper" Hollandsworth found out he'd won the Pistoleer category.  (Think: Frontiersman in SASS; 2 C&B pistols, pistol caliber rifle, hammered (only) shell or percussion shotgun, BP or accepted sub ONLY)  Thanks to French Jack (who donated it), Dave was presented a beautiful new Pietta-made 1851 Colt repro.  It truly rivals MUCH more expensive pistols in fit and finish and has a great feel!  Even 'tho I didn't finish as well, it was great to see Dave get this beautiful revolver and my thanks go out to Bob "French Jack" Chenault for his thoughtful donation!

I wanted to be there.  We had a flood here.  The lake is receding slowly now.  Our house was on an Island.  Thank god we chose a dry home site.

All the animals came to the high ground.  I've been guarding my bride's garden and pumping water.

Good on you for a great shoot.  I'll finally get to do an NCOWS shoot at Holmen this season.

LOTS of water all around us (to the North) down there.

Glad you came out of it OK, DD!

Are we going to need an inland GAF Navy in the Department of the Atlantic??

I'm thinkn' of a new stage that will take advantage of all this rain we're havin'.  It would be shot from a canoe. . . .

I'm glad that the NCOWS nationals didn't experience all that water.

All of our interstate roads were closed for a while yesterday.  Many fed, state and county roads have been closed over a week now.  Folks in Avoca being evacuated.

Keep yer powder dry.

It was pretty amazing that E'ville didn't experience any rain.  Of course, the Ohio river (only a mile or less away) was rising at a good rate, but it didn't affect the shoot - even 'tho it was creating havoc only an hour or less away.  We were lucky!

It MUST have been the smoke and flames from the prodigious amount of Black Powder that warded off the black clouds!  Or the amount of lead bein' pushed by that BP.

(Actually, I have heard that there IS some scientific proof that the massive clouds of smoke from big battles actually may CAUSE some rain.  "It always rains after a battle" is a phrase I've heard said about big battles in history.)

Hope your spread remains OK, DD.  (I can't remember the name you christened it - Big Lube Acres, or something.)  It sounds worse up there than what we got here!  I don't know of any roads that are still flooded a week later.
