Ok guys, just asking for personal opinions here.  Which BP revolver is the most bad @ss... The Colt Walker with 6 shots of 60 grain BP goodness, or the LeMat reproductions with nine shots of .44 bullety goodness backed up by a built-in 20 ga. shotgun?

I offer  "the Samaritan", a four shot webley-esk revolver in a calibre somewhere betwtixt 15mm and 20mm. seen here:

I submit that it must be BP due to the clearly victorean design.

My vote goes to the "tigerstopper" .577 caliber revolvers of the Victorian era ......

L to R - .577 Webley revolver,  .45ACP and .577 Revolver cartridges,   .577 Revolver specs (metric) ......

Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

Wow, those .577 Webleys are impressive.  However, I was referring to revolvers (or replicas thereof) that you can still get.....

Actually, though they aren't exactly common,  these .577 revolvers do crop up from time to time.  A friend of mine recently acquired one ...

What weight bullet?  And how much powder?  I've heard about those .577 Webleys, but never seen a pic.

Rev-Bill

Howdy Pards Rev-Bill here AKA Preacher. I own a bad@ss Walker and also have fired a lemat and IMHO Walker hands down, with 6 -250gn hunks o lead you don't need no steenkin extra 3rounds and grape shot ;D I think the lemats are greatly under powdered :P and much overrated, IMHO that is.. ;)I also just installed an R&D drop in 45lc conversion cyl and I have to say it is  pure honey smooth and clean.Timing is perfect and and it just dropped right in no mods or fitting peerffekt right out o the box!A mite bit pricey but after runnin a whole box o shells thru it I am impressed and it is worth every penny. So how does the Walker hold up to those heavy bullets?  Are they loaded full of BP, partially loaded with BP, or are they smokeless?

I had a chance to buy what was apparently a Belgian knock-off of one of these,  for a real nice price (comparitively), but did not because it had timing issues.  I think I am the one with timing issues!  ;D

We have a guy in our group that shoots a Walker...it gets your attention!

I guess it depends on if your looking for a specific timeframe or not....

Howdy!

It's not quite up to a Walker, but my 1st Mod. (2nd Gen) Colt Dragoon will make ya sit up and take notice!  When I first got it, I had some 30 gr. Pyrodex pellets.  Many will agree that Pyrodex is sometimes harder to ignite than regular BP and the pellets even more so.  That's why so many Inlines use #209 shotgun primers.  Anyway, I was trying to get as close as possible to the recommended MAXIMUM charge of 50 grains behind a .454 ball.  I poured in loose 3f out of my flask with a 20 gr. spout, placed a pellet on it and seated a ball (with a wad between.)  By golly - it was an attention getter!!!  That 3f ignited the pellet just FINE!  It's the ONLY time I've actually had a BP gun give me "felt recoil" near what a Magnum (.357) pistol did ... And the Dragoon weighs over 4 lbs, 2 oz. loaded!

It was FUUUUNNNNN !! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I now shoot it with about 42-43 grs. of loose 3f, but it's a lot tamer than those first 25 or so loads I shot!  30 grs. actually feels kinda puny!
;)

By the way, because the pellet is so compressed, I could probably have gotten another 5-10 grs. of loose powder in the chamber - IF I wanted ... but I didn't.  The gun digested that hot load like a Ruger Old Army would have!  No problem and then some ...

I vote for one of the Dragoon models. Authentic, reliable and good-looking, IMO.
They are a product improvement of the Walker model and should be capable of equal or greater performance to a stoked .45 Colt. I believe the native americans referred to them at least once as "god's pistols".
