My new Merwin Hulbert .38 holster

Here is my newest firearm addition and of course, it had to have some leather. It didnt feel right having brand new leather on a vintage Merwin, so I antiqued it some. There is a coat of Skidmores on top of the dye, then the rough treatment started.
Have yet to shoot it, but hopefully will get a chance tomorrow.
The Merwin I bought at an auction and it had leather grips on it. Someone actually took a nice thick piece of leather for the base, then glued a contoured piece on top of it for a grip. They were deteriorated badly and stunk to high heaven so they are in the garage. Bought these grips on Gunbroker. Thinking of remaking the leather grips tho, and maybe doing something a little fancy.  DM

Wow, Dalton. You been holding out on us? The tooling is done very well. Nice even curves and the beveling is smooth and even. That holster is a good accessory for that pistol. Nice pairing up there.

Very cool DM. I like it.
Looks super with the Merwin.

PS:
Reproduction (black checkered hard rubber about $20-$30) grips are available for many MH revolvers, if you decide you'd like something a bit closer to factory original. Just thought I'd let you know.

D M, if you hadn't had said you just made the holster I would have thought it was an original that came with the gun ?

Thanks for the nice comments gents.
Irish Dave, I saw those, but feared they would all look too new on this baby.

I did go out and shoot it last night. Very very accurate at about 10 yards. Was taking the caps off of pop bottles with it. Someone went to the trouble years ago and filed down the front sight, and it is to POA. My wife was even impressed. DM

Dalton, that's a fine lookin' holster. I like the reddish brown highlights in the high spots. How did you finish that holster to look like that? If you don't mind sayin"?

Many thanks,

Horsepen, I dyed it with mahogany oil, then when dry I took a little bit of 400 grit sandpaper lightly over the top with the GUN IN THE HOLSTER..... The highlights are actually almost raw leather peeking thru the dye, where the scuffs are. I put a coat of skidmores over it, and since this set of pics, have done it again, with a little more aggression. Looks a little better, and the skidmores helps make it not so fresh looking. DM
