Colt vs New Model Ruger grips??

Howdy all. I was wondering how close the new model Ruger grips are to Colt SAA? If I order a set of Colt ones, will they fit with a little fitting? Which generation is closest? Thanks. DM

assuming you mean Hard rubber grips ... there is Vintage grips...they have prancing horse style to fit the Vaquero probably the NMV as well.

No, not the rubber. Talking about the ivory look alikes. I know they say the new grip frame is SAA sized, but will a SAA army grip fit it? DM

Colt grips don't even fit other Colts.  Each has to be fitted to a specific gun.  Ruger frames are cast so they are more uniform.  The New Vaquero grip is very close to a Colt.  However, the frame locator pin is in a different position so that would have to be re-drilled.  Why go to all the trouble of trying to fit Colt grips to a Ruger?  Just order Ruger grips.  The New Vaquero has been out long enough that all the grip makers make grips for them.

Because the pattern on the grip is not available in the Ruger, only the Colt.
Most of the sites I have been to, do not mention new ruger, just Ruger, and I know an old model is larger than a new model.

A lot of web sites are way behind on listing new products.  If you see something you are interested in give them a call to see if they have the grip you like for the New Vaquero. 

I tried a set of Colt 3rd Gen grips on a new Vaquero (a stainless New Vaquero.  Some people have reported that the blued New Vaquero is slightly different in contour) and they were very close.  The locator holes are far enough apart that I don't think you would have to fill the hole before drilling a new new one.  An unfitted pair of grips might have enough material to fit on a New Vaquero.
