I was playing with my Great Western II today, and noticed it doesnt make any clicking noises as I rotate the cylinder while on half cock.  Should it?  My New Vaquero does, but I know thats an entirely different animal.

Pettifogger

It should.  The hand has a coil spring and it should be exerting pressure on the hand and ratchet all the time.  If there is no noise and the cylinder is basically free wheeling, remove the cylinder and press the tip of the hand with a screwdriver.  It should have tension on it.

Good - I thought it was clicking before.  I'll do that.  It is free wheeling on half cock, but it cycles fine.

OK, actually it does not cycle fine.  When pointed down, the hammer cocks and the cylinder will turn.  When pointed up, hammer will cock and cylinder will not turn.  Broken or gunked up hand spring I presume, and I'm getting the benefit of gravity to cycle the cylinder when the revolver is pointed down.  I've never disassembled a single action army, but it time to learn.

I had the same thing happen to my New Model Vaquero, it turned out to be a bent plunger which also twisted the hand spring, because the plunger came off the spring and got stuck, it was an easy fix. You might want to call E.M.F. they usually have a tec. on board that might be able to guide you through this, and they also have the parts you will need, I'm not 100% sure the tec. is still with them, but talk to Don or Debbie and they should be able to help you. http://www.emf-company.com/dealers.html  These Great Western ll single actions are great guns, but things like this will happen to all makes, just part of the fun of learning your gun. ??? ::) :o 8)

Dr. Bob

Sack,

Yep, sounds like a problem with the hand spring.  VTI Gunparts will have the replacement parts.  Good luck!!
