Hello  I have a Uberti made 1873 cattleman revolver in 44 c&b and I wanted to know if there is a conversion drop in cyl for it to use cartriges in either 32-20 or 38-40 or 45lc? I have an orig.winch.73 Rifle  in 32-20 and also a winch 92 orig carbine in 38-40 it would be a nice companion to either of them but a 45lc would be just fine.I realy enjoy shooting it as a c&b but it would be nice to also be able to use cowboy rounds in it . Thanks pards  Rev-Bill :)

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they can be changed.  None of the standard conversion cylinders I know of will work.  I don't know if VTI  parts will sell a standard cylinder for it.  Altho' a few of those guns were (are) sold in the US, the majority are sold in countries like Great Britain where standard pistols are forbidden.  Those countries are pretty touchy about being able to convert C&B guns into "real" weapons of mass destruction.  ::)  >:(

Can you say Gun People Control?  The world is CERTAINLY safer because re-enactors there can't convert their C&B guns to cartridge firing weapons.  :o  ::) >:(

Rev-Bill:  Sorry.  I almost got a little carried away there.  I have quite a few friends over in G.B. (Scotland) and ALL my In-Laws.  It really bugs the be-jeebers out of me to see the way those people have been railroaded by their feel-good, inept political "experts."  Dunblane was the last straw and so they banned all handguns.  Everybody will be SAFE now ... it says so right here on the label.  OH WAIT !!!!  Violent crime, especially gun crimes   have risen over 1000% since that happened!  Boy, they sure are safer NOW!

Call VTI and see if they'll sell you a cylinder; you'll probably have to pay a gunsmith to have it fitted and I don't know about the legalities involved.  You might (probably) be better off buying a new Uberti in 45 Colt.

Rev-Bill: suggest you ask Suzanne Webb or Irene DeLiva of Uberti/Gardone that question. Her email addresses are suzanne.webb@ubertireplicas.it and irene.deliva@ubertireplicas.it. Make sure to give them the S/N of your pistol that they can check their records.

I have one too. The company will tell you it can't be done but they will convert to .45lc... but it's a long & expensive process unless you can do machine work yourself. The cylinder if I remember right is over $80 then you have to get it fitted to the gun then you have to get a different firing pin and have the frame filled in and machined back out to fit the new firing pin.
In short "do as I say and not as I did" ::) Don't bother with converting it. Shoot it as is or sell it and use the proceeds to buy a new Uberti Millineum (they're ugly but they're still a grreat entry level gun).

I had not heard of a 1873 Cattleman in c & b. I thought the Cattleman series were all cartridge guns. (apparently not) Are the c & b guns primarily sold in Europe where guns are more closely controlled than here in the good ol U.S. of A.? Excuse my ignorance.

DD: as SHB explained Uberti made them originally to compy with the demand of the poor pards who wanted a Colt SAA look-alike in underprivileged European countries with strict gun control and high crime rates, like United Kingdom, etc.
In the opinion of this humble German cowboy a few collectors appearantly needed to have such strange animals. Therefore, some of these pistols seem to have surfaced in less gun controlled countries with lower crime rates like the US of A. I love your gun laws, you American cowboys. Consider yourselves very happy.

LJW,
Thanks for the update. I just read SHB response again and see he did answer my question. So much for my written comprehension. As for our gun laws, I just hope we can keep the anti-gunners on the ropes. It's a constant fight. We see what can happen through your misfortune.
