Oily belt...

Since I needed a belt quickly and didn't want to sew the cartridge loops, I bought one.  It's made by Triple K, and apparently it's oil finished, 'cause it's making my new vegetable tanned holster dark and greasy!

Anyone know a way to get the excess oil out of this thing?

Thanks,
Harpo

1) Corn meal works better even than kitty litter
2) After that use Murphy's Oil Soap (I know it sounds redundant being an "oil" soap) but it will work
3) See his post re: leather thickness - it's 8/9 oz leather which is the industry standard so it is not really thin. Early original holsters were often made of 6/7 or 7/8 oz leather, later ones of 8/9 oz. The thick saddle skirting thickness (10-12oz or more) holsters you often see today are a modern CAS thing and IMO frankly are not needed if the holster is built right - many modern concealment holsters are made of thinner leather and then properly hardened to hold their shape for years.

Chuck:

I agree with you 100%. Holsters need not be that extremely heavy material.  I use 8/9 on all my holsters.

You could place the belt on old newspapers / paper towels and leave it on the dashboard  of your car under the windshield , while you are at work , a day or two , and it will drain the oil out the belt  ......................especially on warm days that are sunny  .   ;)
