I don't post a whole lot as I've got dialup at home, and this one loads really sllllooooowwww.  I can access this forum at work (highspeed) ... for now.

When I decide to save my hard-earned money for something that costs more than $50, I attempt to do all of the research I can when there is more than one option available.

Right now, I want a conversion cylinder for my pride and joy revolvers.

I'm researching conversion cylinders for my Pietta "1858" Remington New Armies (.44 Caliber). What I'm looking for are better pictures than are offered on Taylors/R&D Gunshop/KirstKonverters/etc websites.  I ain't old enough to need readin' glasses, but the pictures offered are ... not detailed enough for me to make an informed decision.

I know SkinnyPreacher made up a nice "how to tear down your Remmie" article, and I noticed that he's got a Kirst Konverter.  Lotsa good detailed pictures for tearin' down your shootin' iron ... but not much on the Konverter.

Specifically, I'm looking for larger, higher quality front, top, bottom, left, right and back views ... installed and out of gun for the following:
1. R and D Conversion Cylinder (a few shots installed, than several shots of the conversion cylinder, and backing plate.
2. Kirst Konverter (same shots as above)
3. Gated Kirst Converter (same shots/pix)
4. Kirst ejector assembly.

Also, If you could offer up some un-biased pro's and con's, that would be great. One thing I do not like about the ungated Kirst Konverter, is the 5 chambers, and a "blank" safe carry position ... but, I'm not going to get into my reasoning for it (I'd like to hear YOUR input).

If you've got a photobucket album with the info, if you could provide me the link, I'd be thankful ... photobucket ain't blocked from work yet.

If you can post pictures/thumbnails here, well, I'll just have to suffer through dialup for my research.

Thanks in advance!

By the way, here's a coupl of pictures that I took/tweaked ... kinda on the order of the teardown document Skinny Preacher wrote:

I have emailable pics of the Kirst Konverters. Send me a message with your email and I'll send them. I like the construction of the Kirst more than the R&D, but R&D are nice too. Kirst also has given me much better service than R&D. The Kirst 5-shot safety chamber is perfect for SASS and safe carry.

PM me and I'll email the pics. I have the Civil War style, non-gated style, old gated style, and the ejector. Currently the new gated versions are improved and a spring loaded ejector is available. If you won't be shooting SASS, I have a pair of older style 5-shot Kirst Konverters that are 45LC and evenly spaced w/o safety notch 4-sale. Backplate is investment cast not milled  8)
Smoke em if ya got em.

My recommendation is to (at work) do a search (see window above) for clyinder, R&D, Ejector and Kirst you'll be surprised how many of the pics that you are requesting are already posted here. I would also go to the SCORRS site as there are lots of gun pics there with conversion cylinders.

If you are willing to share what it is you are trying to accomplish, I'd be glad to take some pics of various conversions in my collection.

Walt Kirst is or has phased out all of the "un-gated" back plates so your NEW purchase choices are going to be the New gated Kirst or the R&D.

Good luck! ;D

Hoof - I've done the searches, and web-surfing and have found lots of pictures ... the problem is, I haven't been successful finding many pictures that are much better than a thumbnail.  Plus, I know there's lots more going on with a conversion cylinder than a picture of the backing plate and cylinder assembled together.  I'm a Mechanical Design Drafter by trade, so I probably have a higher set of expectations than most.  Most of the pictures I've found are literally best viewed at, roughly, wallet size or slightly larger ... when I blow them up on my computer screen, the detail/quality of the picture is lost.

Anything you can get me, as far as pictures go, can't be any worse than what I've already found.

The pictures I posted of my blued Pietta are a bit out of date, I've made a grip modificaion to it since then.  Eventually, this one will be cut down to a belly gun.

I also made a new front sight for it.  Hand cut the dovetail ... looks like crud, but it works!  I like to tinker ...
