Slim's 155 gr. bullet

Lousy weather today, snow, sleet, rain, so I was forced to find work inside.  Casting about for a quick project, I spied the sample  slim .45 - 155 grain bullets Springfield Slim made with the brand new mold and sent to me to try.

  Nope, I didn't get to shoot any (see weather report above), but lubed and sized em, and loaded a few, including a dummy round to evaluate the cycling in the rifles.   Seated to crimp in the crimp groove, the round came out 1.177" OAL in the C45S case. This is a hair longer than the H&G 185 loads (1.170), and a bunch longer than the EPP-UG , and a full .100 longer than my Barnstormer 120s.

The TC nose profile with a very narrow driving band ahead of the crimp groove looked promising for the rifles.

The Uberti '73 with the Cowboy Carrier gobbled em up without a hitch. The Spur Special Marlin, a notoriously finicky feeder, also fed them flawlessly.

I gotta have a little better weather to pop a few across the screens and for groups, but so far, it looks like Slim's got himself a winner.

    Jack  I wondered how they feed,shouldnt be a problem for the Cowboy Carrier,it truly works as a elevator. The Marlin was the question,if the length is correct,it will probally feed. Ill bet when and if the weather turns, the Slims will fly.    Adios  Sgt. Jake

Just to clarify things, they were designed to be 155 grains but with my alloy they come out closer to 165. I haven't shot any myself, I do 44-40, but my wife shoots 45 Colt so we should be checking them out in her Uberti '66 soon. The length is the same as the 200's she has been using, so I can save myself a little bit of lead with these. I'll just use Alox on them instead of BP lube like I have been doing with her other bullets. Easier and cheaper. I like easier and cheaper.  I plan on using them in Schofield brass in my '72 Open Tops as soon as I make some holsters for them. Will load some up in my 45 Cowboy special brass too, see which works better.
