What is a side match exactly?  I am thinking about going to my first match and I know I'm not ready to shoot the whole shmear, as it were.  Is a side match where one would only shoot one kind of gun, such as shooting pistols or rifles only?  Thanks for any info ya'll have.

I have lots of guns, except for a shotgun.  And yeah, I should just jump in I know.  Kind of moot at the moment because I have the flu, I mean full blown influenza and the match is this weekend I think.  We'll see how I feel.

Some local matches have some side matches some of the time.  Most annual matches have them.

Examples are speed rifle, speed pistol, speed shotgun, long range rifle, cowboy clays, speed pocket pistol etc
