Howdy Pards!
I'm fixin to start in on this here Cowboy action shooting, I bought some shootin irons 2 new Vaqs, an 1873 short barrel, and now I was hoping to use my  LC Smith that I grew up huntin with my Pa.

it is a 1907 with the original 1886 hammerless model However, it has a small ding in the right hand barrel that I noticed while I was cleanin er up. about maybe a 16th inch deep, barely seen looking down the barrel (With it removed/ broken open from the chamber side...)
I used to hunt with this gun, but it looks like it was dropped or somethin dropped on it,  it spent about 15 years on the wall at my Pa's house...
the question is... can I repair it, or just pull the pins and call her a wall hanger/ family heirloom?

H.D. ???

My SKB has a couple of dings in the barrel.  Doesn't hurt the shooting at all.  If it bothers you, you can take it to a good gunsmith and he can raise the ding with special tools for that purpose.  As small as you are describing, I'd just shoot it and have fun.

Major 2

My 60's vintage 870 Remington pump (Skeet) has had a ding for some 30 years it is of no consequence.
It would not hurt to get a good gunsmith's opinion, just for your peace of mind, then shoot enjoy your heirloom.

A far more dangerous thing is a loose nut behind a trigger  ;D  avoid these.....

Thanks y'all, I feel very good about takin 'er out thar and makin some smoke.   ;D

I sounds like it is safe to fire, Pa used to say to me, "don't shoot that thing it will explode!"  but with light lead shells, I will certainly take it out there to the next meet I can get to. grat to know I don't need to buy another yet. (I may do so eventually though... ;D (can never have too many guns...)
it will be mighty fine using the ol' LC again.  (I really like that gun... though it has no choke and no sight...it was "shortened" back in the 20s or 30s from want Pa said... I may eventually put a bead on it....)
anyway it is long enough to be used in the matches...

thanks again!

Cost more to remove the ding than it's worth.  As described, and as long as the ding is not in the muzzle end, it shouldn't affect the way it shoots at all.  Leave it alone and shoot away.
