I'm thinking of getting one of the Uberti Walker kits from DGW.  The reviews have all been very favorable.  I was wondering if the R&D conversion cylinder is going to drop right in, and is it a regular Uberti Walker kit that just hasn't been finished?
Thanks for any help.

the kit is about 95% complete, knowing your handy work, it will turn out a beauty.
The thing is thought, the difference in price for Kit VS Finished is rather small as I recall... so is it worth the effort  ???

But I also know you like your "winter projects" so that difference may be  inconsequential & immaterial.
The R&D will fit, it will mostly require a bit of tuning but not much.

You remember the Kit gun I built into a revolving carbine back in 1984. the one David Caridine (I think) still has ?
It came basically only needing final filing to the Barrel , & Grip frame and wood (which I did not use anyway )
It was timed, head spaced and the Cylinder was completely finished.
all that's really needed then is to blue it, If you wish... ( I finished my gun in white with a patina ) and of course finished the buttstock.
when planets align...do the deal !

Is there a fix for the loading rod to stay fixed under heavy loads?

Sureshot

Hi there,
I ordered one of the DGW Uberti Walker kits last week and it will be here in a couple of days. I will let you know what it looks like when it arrives.
I am trying to decide which way to go on the finishing, a like-new finish, or antique.
If I decide on the new finish I would rust blue the proper parts and send the rest off to be properly bone and charcoal case hardened.
I have never done an antique type finish, but there's some pretty good info on here about how to do it.
Maybe I'll antique this one and get another down the road to do the other way.
Decisions, decisions  :-\

Sell the Walker and buy a Dragoon.  Thats what they did back in the day.   :D

Yes, you have to install a heavier spring. Flint is a whiz on these cap 'n balls and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts he knows. Flint, are you there?

I've corrected the falling-rammer on many C&B, but not a "Walker". It needs more spring pressure and/or a sharper/deeper edge or other feature to snap into. I'd either bend the current spring (assuming it's flat) or make a new one. Most flat springs can be tweaked gently, coil springs are a snap to build.
