Some additional 2008 experience I'd like to share with the campfire:
I installed my first set of whisper springs last fall into my steel frame Henry (2006 production). They just had to be dropped in, not fitting needed, screwd tight and I was ready to go.
Based on that positive experience I asked my Texas friend to get me a few more sets for my other toggle link rifles, namely a brass framed Uberti/Henry (1997 production), Uberti/73 Musket (1999 production) and Euroarms 73 Carbine (1982 production). After some trial and error I found out that these newer springs had a wider brass base and I had to file off some tens of a mm to keep them from blocking the lifter arm. After the file-fitting the 2 Ubertis cycle just fine with the new springs.
The Euroarms 73 is a different animal. Not only did the new springs block the lifter arms which could be corrected easily. The bad news here is the internal dimensions of the lockwork are different to the Ubertis. The gap between the toggles in the most rearward and lowest position in relation to the base of the frame does not leave enough space for the whisper springs to operate, compared to the factory springs which have an overall "flatter" design.
Lesson learnt: it would appear that whisper springs can be made to work in the Ubertis toggle link rifles but not in the Euroarms/ASP 73s.
