I was just wondering what serial # range are new spencers at now?  I received mine last month and it is serial #1044.  I thought that by now they would be higher.

I bought mine at the end of July '05.  It is a 56-50 with serial num M13xx.  Does not seem to be a correlation there.

WW, looks like yours and mine are sequential - mine is 1043 from Nov '05.

I wonder if the S/N has to do with caliber with each caliber in it's own S/N range or if they are just S/N'd as they are produced with no regard to caliber?  Mine is in 56-50.  Others might post their caliber and maybe we can see a pattern (or no pattern) develop.

Two Flints

Hello SSS,

Since this thread appeared again regarding Spencer Serial #s and how they are assigned, I Emailed Armi Sport and received the following reply to my questions:

Please help me if you can with this question, if you have the time.  How does Armi Sport assign serial #'s to their Spencers?  How are the serial #'s assigned to Spencers - is it by caliber,  or are they just given random numbers?  Please,  what system is used?   To which Armi Sport replied:

Hello Two Flints,

We usually decide which serial number to use when we start a new product, usually we use a specific letter at the beginning of the numbers to identify the model, SH for Sharps, M for Spencer, S for Springfield, R for Richmond etc. then we can start with numbering with 001 or in some cases using a standard number and changing the letter only, on the Spencer we started with 001, on the Springfield we started with 001 as well but when Richmond was done, we used the same numbers just changed the letter, so we will have for example one Springfield S1200 and then one Richmond R1201 and then again a Springfield S1202.

Hope this answers your questions...

Best regards (Armi Sport)

M1757; 1/08  in 56-50 from Dixie Gun Works. Where can I see a cut-away view with the Stabler cut-off? Don't know if mine has it or not. The barrel on mine is 20" from the muzzle to the front of the breech block. Some of the venders advertise there carbines with a 22" inch barrel instead of the 20" barrel, was there a different version of the 1865 with a longer barrel? Thanks,......Ramon

My .56-50 from Dixie came a couple of weeks ago; SN is M1958, I believe -- I'm at work and the Spencer is at home of course ...

Got a 1st year in .45 S&W M049X.  The .56-50 I picked up in 06 was M148X.  They are sequential regardless of calibers, I just don't think its a high production item.  Like it that way. ;D
