Curly,

I see one problem with the picture, you do not have enough matched sets you need one more gun.   ;D

I only shoot to support my reloading habit.

I love mine.  I'm not up for a ford vs chevy style argument on what clone is better, but to me it seems superior to a lot thats out there.

That said, I dont really understand why I cant find any emf products on the shelfs of the places I frequent.  Its all Uberti's.  Is EMF primarily a mail order shop?  I know they have been in business a lonnng time - so its certainly no reflection on their success.

Guess I'm just saying, I'd like to see more of them out there.

Howdy Gents

I know Walker47 is one of there big dealers, but I've seen them at other gun shops here in So. California, I talked to one shop owner about his Great Western l l's, and he told me they didn't stay in the case long ater he would get them in , he said once people would pick them up and handle them , and take a good look, they would usually say sold, and thats the same way I felt the first time I saw and handled one, I didn't buy it then, but I couldn't get it out of my mine, so I made a call to E.M.F. and went down and picked out my first GW l l , I love these guns....... ;D 8)

One of the problems I see from a sales & distribution standpoint is the lack of a Pietta website.  Every time I look for it, all I get is "Under Construction, Coming Soon."  Even if the GWII's are exclusive to EMF, some active support from the manufacturer, ala Uberti, would no doubt be benefitial.

I've got my excuses and I'm stickin' to 'em.

I think Colt is tempting me (or just playing with my head!) They now have an ad like the one I have in the picture above, only this time they have a nickel Colt and a black Colt with the eagle medalion grips layed out just like the pix I have above.

So, not to be out done, I am going to have to picture my Great Westerns (the nickel and the black one) on the Colt ad.

stay tuned....<g>

Riot Earp

Hey Curley ... I can't decide between a stainless and a blued/CC. Does the stainless seem softer?

Curley Cole

Riot
That is the one model of GW I don't have, the Stainless...The guns I have pictured are the nickel plated, they are beautiful. The stainless has a kind of brushed look to the finish. I handled a couple of them last week, and they had a real good feel to them. I am not sure about the "toughness" of the metal. If you are an afecetanado of the stainless guns, the GW is a beauty. and the ones with the brass tg/bs (and I don't like brass tg/bs) looks really nice...(see pix in my trip to EMF posting for shots of the 92 and the GW, both in brass and stainless.

Hope that answers yer question.

I'm going to order a stainless one. I was planning on getting a stainless Vaquero, but a standard SAA feels better in my hand and everyone raves about the GWIIs. Are the white grips cheesy? I can order a stainless gun with walnut grips if I want.

Curley Cole

Well, I am going to give you an honest answer, because, ya all deserve nothing less.....

My first 2 GW have their original Poly grips, they have a yellowish finish that look and feel great. (they are the top pair in the pix of the Mag. Seven..Hehe.)  I replaced the ones on the Nickel plated ones cuz I wanted real ivory. The ones on them looked good too I replaced the ones on the black gun because I wanted the Colt eagle grips. Now, for the honest part. When I got the engraved pair (and they have their original grips in the picture, and to me they were a pale white, which I didn't like.).they fit good and would probably age a bit, but for the engraved I went fancy and got the liberty eagles from Buffalo Bros.

All in all you could ask Debbie or Buffalo Sam to pick out a pair with the coloring you like, or as close as possible. But the fit is excellent.

So, I hope that answers yer question...look foward to seein some pix when ya get them..

Is the only difference beteen the GWII & the Californian version the grips?  I like CCH & blue...  And if it's true that the patent dates are no longer on the frame, any recommended after market source to have them put back on?

According to the catalog, the Californian doesn't have the "deluxe" finish (cch by Turnbull or the custom nickel, which sitting side by side with the factory nickel it shows it is worth the difference in price,) and the catalog shows the Californian as having the wood grips. I have to tell ya the difference in the CCH also is incredible...The pix above is one of my first GW's with the Turnbull CCH, and the pix really doesn't do it justice

I spoke to "Alchimestia" (well actually emailed him) a couple of years ago when I wanted to match my nickel GW up with the first one, and he said they had stopped putting the patent dates, and the proper calibre designation on their guns in anticipation of Colt pressing them for copyright...I know a couple of gunsmiths that have the proper roll stamps, that they could even put the "rampant horse" on it. On my all blue gun with the Colt eagle black grips on it I was really tempted, because like he said it was all but identical to a Colt then, it only needed a couple of impressions....I still am going to do the picture of the 2 guns over the magazine...just been busy.

hope that answers the questions..
