I would like to sell 2 1858 Remingtons, stainless stell pistols, excellent condition, fair price.I called UPS and  they must go to a dealer or licensed gun smith.I was hoping it would be easy to sell a C&B to an individual. What is your experience?? Please give me advice and suggestions. Many thanks in advance,John

It just depends on which states you are talking about shipping from or to.. there are a few states in the Home of the Free, Land of the Brave... that require black powder guns to be sent through FFL`s . ::)

Since they're blackpowder replicas and not cartridge revolvers - you can mail them to the buyer - no problem.

Same's true of antique guns (pre-1898).

I've never had a problem, and if you pack them carefully, neither should you.

Just shipped a pair of 51 navies to a Pard USPS Priority.  Just insure.  No questions asked.  C&B guns are not restricted unless state where it is received has specific law on books.

My partner says,in CT,they will ask if there is metal in the package to be mailed and may xray it. Do you tell them there is a gun inside? I have no experience here and want to avoid problems..many thanks for the replies. This is a situation we may all face so a good body of experience in this thread will be valuable for others. John

Black Powder replicas can go through US Mail with no problem, BATF does not consider the 1858's a firearm. They do not require a FFL either Unless the "state from" or "State to" requires it. gunbroker has a large section devoted to shipping firearms, and links to BATF also. JB

Musketiii . . . . I've received numerous cap & ball pistols UPS.  Haven't sent any as I only buy 'em, not sell 'em  :)  Some received from individuals, several from Cabelas.  Only a couple of states require to an FFL.  Ill. I think and ? . . one other, forget which off hand.  One peice of advice.  Pack 'em GOOD.  Xmas of '06 I received to '58s from a pard ( my Xmas present to ME ).  Picked up the package at the UPS store.  Went out to my truck / camper rig in the parking lot.  Opened the rear door.  Plopped the package down on the floor.  A pistol barrel popped out of the corner of the package !  OOOOPPPPSSSSS !   If that had happened when the gal set it down on the counter in the UPS store it would have been a nightmare !  To those people a gun is a GUN.  Would have required a lot of explaining, probably police called to the scene, etc.  So PACKE 'EM GOOD.  If insuring and asked what is in it, . . I've heard of pard stating that contents are precision machined parts.  Good answer for the value being insuredand the weight.  Not the UPS stores business that they are "non guns" etc. . . . Good shootin', . . and good shipping, . . .  :)
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

talked to a ups employee who participates at local steel challenge shoots. he says to ship via overnight ups service and insure. the overnight service puts it in the hands of ups the shortest amount of time and reduces "disappearance." if asked for contents i've said "clock parts." get it? now i go to a ups p.u. place that my gunsmith uses...they ask no questions about contents there. good luck, geo.
