Hi pards, . . . got a problem.  Have an Armi San Marco '58 that I got cheap as part of a deal for Xmas of '06.  Decent shape except for a really, really beat to hell cylinder.  Ok.  Shoots fine.  An extra pistol.  On the SASS wire someone had a cylinder for it for sale. No pistol. One nipple missing. Ok, . . I bought it.  Great.  98 % condition. Makes the pistol look real decent and the beat up cylinder is available for reload. Fine.  A week or so ago I oder spare springs and one nipple from VTI .  Package shows up today with no nipple.  Back ordered "in case they are ever available" !  I'm not happy.  Done busness with 'em a few times and all was fine, but it would be nice if their web site listed somthingt as not being in stock when it's not.  But glad to have the extra springs for the pistol, as I like to have parts for all guns.  Question is, . . where do I get a nipple (s) to fit a Armi San Marco ?  Do any of the tresto nipples have the right size and thread ? . . . can the Armi San Marco cylinder be tapped out to take Pietta nipples ? . . information appreciated.

Good shootin', . . . .

Go here: http://www.thunder-ridge.com/

However their new website is incomplete. Call them as they will have your nipples.  ;)

Fox Creek, . . thanks, I'll give 'em a call.

Wolfgang,
I have put the ROA replacement nipples from Uncle Mikes/Butler Creek in my ASM 1860 Army. They are size 12X28. The Pietta nipples are a finer thread @ 6X.75 in their Colts. I am assuming the ASM  Remingtons are threaded the same as their Colts 12X28. Get a set of six. Be sure to get a nipple pick since the Treso flash holes are reeeeely tiny and get oil or cleaning debris in them easily. During a match they are pretty self cleaning but on the first stage of a match I always run a nipple pick into the powder even after I have verified "all nipples clear" prior to pouring the powder. Pick them just before capping.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

Hellgate, as long as you're here............ ;D...........what are the threads on an older Pietta? I think it's the same as today which is metric. I ask as I tried a Thunder Ridge proprietary aftermarket stainless from my 1975 Pietta Rem. and the nipple fit my "new" Euroarms .36 perfectly and I need to order a set from TR tomorrow. Thanks.  ;)

Fox Cr.,
I have an older and newer Pietta. One is probably from the late 1990s the other from the '70s. The threads are 6X.75mm and finer than my ASM nipples which are 12X28 just like the ROA.  A friend recently (about 2-3 years ago) got a Pietta or Uberti '61 Navy that, I think, had an oddball nipple thread of something like 5.5X.75 and he was having trouble finding replacement nips.

I just ran downstairs and looked at the small plastic bags of nipples pulled from some of my pistols. The Pietta (old 1970s and new 1990s) are the finer 6X.75mm as are the Euroarms nipples (older guns of 1970s). The ASM are 12X28. I didn't have a Uberti Nipple to check but I think they are the coarser 12X28 also (TR says so).

Thanks Hellgate. Yes, Ubertis are 12x28. As a note, the older Piettas have a smaller grip frame than the newer, not unlike the Euroarms.  ;)

Wolfgang

Thanks again for all information posted.

I'm wonderin', . . if the ASM nipples are the same thread as the Uberti , . . then I'd expect the folks at VTI to know that and offer the Ubertis as a replacement ? . . . curious about that, . . ?

Good shootin', . . . .  :)

ps.  I haven't had enuf time to shoot since I discoverd the "joys" of the '58 Remingtons and the "Holy Black" to need to replace nipples, . . . but I'll look to ordering me some tresto nipples to have on hand, both for the Piettas and the Armi San Marco.
