My bet is that it is a fake. Look at the rust & pitting on the edge of the cylinder chambers then look at the rest of the gun. The exterior finish is immaculate but the chambers look rusted. The engraving on the barrel (hard to see) looks like the pattern on my "US Marshall" polished steel Pietta colt that is rolled on. It makes me wonder if the cylinder is an original but the rest is an ASP/Euroarms.  "NO RESERVE!" but the bidding starts at over $3000? I'm leery of it.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

Alltho' it IS gorgeous (IF real) those grips sure look new to me.  I've seen a LOT of firearms pictures of old guns, and most natural materials shrink a fair amount in that time frame.  Also, they look like the Elk Antler grips you can buy today.   Furthermore, the prevailing grips that have survived over the years are #1 - wood, #2 - ivory, #3 - Mother of Pearl, and #4 - SOMETIMES stag.  Stag seems to have grown way more popular during the Hollywood time including now.  I personally prefer Ivory, but Stag looks GREAT to me.  "Bout the only material I mentioned that I DON'T care for is the M.of P.  Me and George. (Patton)

If the gun is NOT real, it's still great looking and in some ways, I'd like it better - then I wouldn't feel bad shooting it.  But NOT for $3000!  15-20% of that, maybe.

I also note that NOWHERE does the seller claim it's an antique.  ;)  "For its age" is the only age reference.  ::)  For a gun with no bluing, that statement could well be true if it were 20 years old.  :D

Ok here is my 2 cents worth...........
(I was afraid of being "piled on" :o so I waited for friends to go first)

It's more than likely a Beals. All of the parts are way too correct to not be.
(see here: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=89610547 for a side by side comparison)
I feel that someone had it sanded (and a mighty good job) then engraved (once again a mighty fine job).
Notice that there are no false claims stated here.
It is likely that it was regripped as SHB noted above.

I'd love to have it, just not at that price :P
