I've been looking for some smooth grips for my Ruger NV, but can't find that many companies that offer them.  Can anyone offer a bunch of places to check?  Also, is it easy to make your own wood grips?  (I think I saw a post about it somewhere at one point) and can birdshead grips be put on an NV without changing the frame/backstrap???
Thanks!

Both Eagle Grips and Ajax Grips sell grips for the New Vaquero. That's a start.

How hard it is to make your own grips depends on how good a woodworker you are.

Dunno the answer to question #3.

That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

If you are interested in something a little unusual, check out my grips site.  http://www.jsgrips.com  I can make grips for the New Vaquero, though I do need your grip frame for proper fitting.

Kinda Sudden

1. if you google, you will find several places in addition to what has been already mentioned

2. Of course not, unless you are an experienced grip maker or you are very talented in which case you may succeed however your first job will still look like an amateur attempt.

3. No, birds head fit birds head frames, etc.

Try www.eaglegrips.com, I just got 2 sets of their smooth Rosewood Gunfighter grips for my RNVs, They were a drop in fit and look very nice.
I've got a name to live up to, and it's Filthy

"can birdshead grips be put on an NV without changing the frame/backstrap???"  Think about that a little.  Can you put a round peg in a square hole?  The grip frame is shaped like a birds head.  You can't put birdshead grips on a plowhandle frame.

Ruger hasn't made the NV with a birdshead.  The OMV will fit, but has to be modified.  It will not bolt directly to the new style frame without a little machining.

Will, not checkering.  Instead, I use a different method to heavily texture the grips. It's much longer lasting than the points on checkering.  It's also a random pattern.  Here's a link to a picture: http://www.jsgrips.com/images/RV/RV003/RV003.jpg

The picture doesn't show it real well.  Send me an e-mail if you'd like a more detailed picture.
