Help Needed - Rampant Colt

[Long Johns Wolf]

This question may have been asked before but I missed it and am sorry about it.
In connection with the Belgian Colt/Centaure research project that you might have read about in the Cowboy Chronicle 11/07 (www.1960NMA.org) I would like to know when Colt's started using the Rampant Colt logo on their letter heads, avertising and also embossed it on guns?

From Sutherland's - 'The Book of Colt Firearms' - page 557.

"The rampant colt trademark underwent basic design changes in its long history, but has continued in use on the company's firearms since the early 1870's. 

It was first filed for registration with the Patent Office  on the 19th of February, 1890.

Registration was issued in April 29th, 1890, being assigned number 17817."

The Intel I posted came directly off the the Colt's Web Page, so I don't know what to state to you here.

I referenced Sutherland with a direct quote - his book is looked at as the 'bible' of the Colt collector, and includes material on the Belgian 'Colts'.

Sometimes, web pages aren't edited quite as thoroughly as they need to be, but the ones listed by Sir harry 'are' accurate - it's that the Rampant Colt 'trademark' - per-se - was listed as being registered in 1890.
