Not a Henry, but a beautiful '66, Serial No.112.269.  Calibre .44. With full octagon nickel plated barrel and varnished xxx quality stock. Engraved and gilded with scenes of Diana and the Chase.  Signed by C.F. Ulrich
The Winchester Museum at Cody, Wyoming, has the original Winchester production records. The listing confirms the number and level of decoration and states that the weapon was shipped in 1878 but no destination or customer is given. A note at the top of the page states that it was among 'special guns transferred from back books'.

It was suppose to have been shipped to my Great Great Grandfather.  Does that mean it belongs to me? ;D

The '66 were owned by Cecil Vokes and given to Hampshire Museums Service in 1961.
It is not known where Vokes acquired this rifle but an entry in a catalogue of his weapons that were loaned for exhibition in 1951, suggests that it may have belonged to W.F. Cody, better known as Buffalo Bill and brought to Britain with his Wild West Show.
While this story cannot be proved, it could be true.Or not ;D

This board/forum certainly welcomes works of art like that 66 for display. ;)

Henry's (Uberti and originals) are the primary topic. Followed closely by 1866 repeaters. I have no problem with 1873 winchesters as well. (as long as its not about "slickin em up")

If someone were to show up with a HRAC big boy with a full length octogon barrel with integrated mag tube, I would like them post just like the rest... my one exception to the rule.  ;D
