I'm fixin to try and fit the Uberti front sights on my Euroarms and Pietta. I like to try those files that Brownells has for widening or for cutting new dovetails. Has anybody tried these or some like it? This will be my first stab at cutting. I will be starting with fresh meat since I cut the Euro down a while back trying to make a Pietta sight work. I should have left it alone and could have just widened the original dovetail. Oh well. I always seem to learn the hard way. :'(  Can't wait do get this done. Shooting POA is a lot more fun.

I believe the file you are referring to has a "blind" or smooth bottom (no jokes here). This is to keep you from deepening the slot as you widen it. At least that is what mine is like. You will have to start with something else, lie a triangle file or maybe even a big mill file on edge. Doing this and draw filing are like prepping a car body for paint. With my ageing eyes it is much better to put on strong readers, at least I can do a MUCH better job that way ;)

My suggestion is to try once or twice on scrap, first.

Good luck!

The dovetail file Brownell's sells really isn't for cutting a dovetail, it's more for filing sights to fit into existing dovetails or for removing burrs in a barrel dovetail.  If you are going to try and cut the dovetail by hand you will will have to use something else to hog out the middle and then use the dovetail file to finish up.

Ok. I got the picture now. Thanks pards. :) I have some bar stock at work that I can practice on.

You can buy Euroarms front sights from S & S Firearms and Winchester sutler. I just replaced the front sights on 3 of them with taller sights (had to ask for them) and now all the guns shoot POA. Of course i had the existing dovetailed slot.

Hellgate....do I hear you right in saying that Euroarms makes , as replacement, an even taller front site than the standard one that comes on their Remingtons?

That's great if they do, cause I always thought their sites stood too low to shoot POA.... ;)

I modified an Uberti  dovetailed front site  to fit on my ASP 1858 Rem Navy,.....took awhile but it worked.

Yup,

There's the address for the parts department. I explained my need to them and the fellow who called me back said it might take a while but he had some taller sights they had made up and would have to look for them. They were about 1/10 inch higher than the stock sights which was just enough to make the 3 guns hit right on elevation wise once I tapped them in. Before that they all shot high.

Thanks Hellgate!

That's good news.   ;D

Hellgate, . . . thanks for the link.  I don't have any EuroArms, . . but it's allways good to have lost of parts references.  I wasn't familiar with them.

Good shootin', . . . .  :)
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

Years ago I got one of those higher sights from Dixie Gunworks.  It sure made a difference with that Euroarms 1858.

The Uberti dovetail front sight is also taller than the older non-dovetailed one, check with VTIgunparts for the Uberti front sight, as it will probably fit the Euroarms..

I put an Uberti front site on a Euroarms Remington, but had to reduce its width considerably in order to fit it.

This explains it,....the new Uberti site is sitting on the Euroarms/ASP Navy barrel  before the change.....

Here's another Euroarms (Army) with modified Uberti site in place.
