Shotgun Chaps

I was in Tandy and came a cross a whole hide they had for sale for $45 and, as I kind of liked it...I bought it.  AFter making 2 pairs of canvas chaps to get the size right, I made these.  The top is veg tan and the legs and fringe is the oil tan I bought.  The pocket buttons are from a peice of cowhorn I had...I kind of like the "double R" brand on the right leg but is was just luck the pattern fit the hide so I could do it.

The conchos are what hold the chaps together...as they only connect in five spots, the chaps are able to breath a bit, even in the summer.

They are pretty comfortable...so far.

These are great. It's hard to find a good brand on a piece of leather. I have yet to get a good one. Good work.

Al,

     You'll want to swap out the leather holding the conchos on with saddles string, lest they crap out on you when you really need them to hold.

The strings have stretched a bit...I am thinking of putting some more elongated holes in and just threading a strap down the side...I could add a fringed peice in between when I do it.

I generally go for a early 1870's impression...was fringe on chaps then???
