I always thought it was interesting that the Pawnee scouts under the North brothers almost mutinied when the cavalry took away their Spencers for single shots. Which one was the ignorant "savage"?  ::) ;)

Here is another pic from the Modoc War.
The photo shows the use of a firing-stick as well as the use of the Civil War-era cartridge box for 20 rounds,slung on a Civil War belt with oval US belt plate.

That looks like the Spencer box which held 42 rounds, it has a tin divider for two inner compartments, each holds three 7 round packages of 56-50 rounds.
