Hi gents,
the original Remingtons in .45 were made with slightly longer cylinders so you couldn't
put one in a revolver barrreled for .44.

???  I did not know that. I have an NCOWS buddy whose father has two original '75's in .45 Colt & he (the son) has one in 44-40 so I'll ask him. Not to doubt you Tubac, as you were right about the '75 serialization, but on what are you basing this?

Tubac

Kid,

Flaydermann's 8th edition, page 145, second column, 1st line.

Thanks for the information, Tubac. that's the kind of stuff that is nice to know.

Tubac

Kid & Marshall,

My 1875 and my 1890 are both in .44/40 so I can't prove/disprove this.
Verification would be appreciated.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

It's too bad there is no book on the 1875 Model. I almost bought the Don Ware book until I read that it does not cover the '75,'88 nor '90 models. I am going to buy the new Flayderman's when it comes out next month (if then). The Marcot book doesn't expound on the '75 Model much. Surely there are some old reference articles(?). Thanks, Tubac.

I should have kept up with this post, it's nice to have others out there with experience and knowledge for sure! My other pistol is an EAA bounty hunter and with it's super long cylinder (as I found out when I recently compared it to my newest acquisition, a SAA artillery model) it was easy to get long rounds with my RNFPs and RN .45's that I handloaded. My email to Uberti confirmed that my specs on my pistol were factory indeed, and that basically my rounds were just unusually long. I have since checked this with several friend's reloads as well as other factory ammo, and it works just fine. So I suppose the moral of the story is to do your homework before you plump for pistolas that look cool, or you're in for a surprise or two! Having to deal with that overall length might not be a huge deal, but it's just one more thing that I'm probably going to try to avoid. Thanks for all of the replies! Now I've just got to decide whether to keep them around or to try to wheel and deal and pick up something else :)

Tubac

Kid,

The Ware book doesn't cover the '75, '88 or '90?
Well that's just plain wrong!
Thanks for letting me know that, I was considering buying it.

Tubac, I spoke w/ my buddy today who has an original '75 in 44-40 & he said he thought the cylinders on all calibers are the same length. As I said before, his father has two originals in .45 Colt and he will measure them next week.
