Subject: Custer Ride is a "GO"

Fellow 7th Cavalry Troopers past and future,

I am pleased to announce that this year's Battle at the Little Bighorn
re-enactment is a "go" for us.  I am also pleased to announce that Mel
Astrahan will be our regiment's guidon, Jim Taylor our regiment's bugler,
and Tom Tompkins our cavalry instructor ... all three qualified for these
positions.

The clothing requirements remain the same as in the past.  If you are new to
this ride, please go to www.great-american-adventures.com for detailed
information, itinerary and dates, suggested motels in Hardin, etc.

If you haven't done so, I'd suggest making your motel reservations in
Hardin, Montana for Monday, June 23 through Sunday, June 29.  Motels fill up
fast for these events.

Those flying to and from our locations:  I suggest flying into Bismarck, ND
and flying out of Billings, MT.  There are some logistical items I need to
discuss, but will direct these discussions later to those going on the ride
so as not to bother anyone else.

DEPOSIT:  Please send me a check for the initial, non-refundable deposit of
$250, made payable to "Great American Adventures" no later than January
30th.  Upon receipt of these deposits I will begin making the necessary
financial commitments with all the different vendors involved with this ride
(and there are many!).  Final payment needs to be received by me no later
than prior to our departure in late-June.

For those that have indicated they don't have the vacation time or money for
the length of this ride and have requested a shorter version, I am in the
process of pricing out the five-day Crow's Nest Ride (two-days)/Battle
re-enactment (three-day) and a three-day Battle re-enactment by itself and
will get that out to you as soon as I can put it altogether.

Remember:  Fort Abraham Lincoln is moving its annual festival dates to
correspond with our cavalry training dates and are in the process of meeting
current building codes to allow us to bunk in the 7th barracks for three
nights (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, June 20, 21, 22) .... not since the 7th
Cavalry was re-assigned from this fort in June 1882 has anyone stayed there
... another 1st for us all!

Other Rides:  Of all the rides offered for 2008, the second and third most
popular were the Hole-in-the-Wall ride and Billy the Kid ride, respectively.
Neither ride has enough riders committed for me to declare these rides a
"go" yet.

Those receiving this email:  please let me know your commitment level for
either of these two rides.  If you have elected a ride not mentioned,
chances are, for this year, that ride will not be a go and hopefully you'll
decide on either of the other two or the Custer ride.

Last Minute Sign Ups:  Yes, with this ride a go, I can now accept additional
riders at the last minute.  I realize it is oftentimes difficult to arrange
vacation time, etc this far out.  If and when your schedule permits you to
make a decision for this ride, do not hesitate to contact me at the last
moment about joining the 7th Cavalry and Riding to Glory with the rest of
us.

I've been on a couple of steamboat trips with Ellswoth - they are always a great time.  I  haven't been able to make any of his rides yet (work conflictions), but I keep trying.  I understand last year's Custer Ride was a lot of fun and they got to do things that other similar groups don't because of Ellsworth's connections.
