If,,,I got a Sharps,,it would have to be in the price range of a Pederstoli or Armi.  For the small difference in price , is the Pederstoli a lot better gun ? Anyone have an Armi and can comment ?

Thanks ya'll

As to a comparison between a Pedersoli and the Armi I cannot comment on the Armi's performance as I have never shot one. I own and have shot a Pedersoli and thus far it has lived up to my expectations [but then I'm still in the experamemtial stage with it.]
I also do not know the price diffrence between the two rifles. But I know that that price diffrence between a Pedersoli and a Shilo Sharps is at least $1,000.00 if not more, the Shilo Sharps being the more expensive.
Buy what you can afford without haveing to morgage the farm.
and shoot and have fun.

I have not shot or handled or even looked at an Armi Sport Sharps. I did own a pedersoli Sharps a few years ago and I owned a shiloh Sharps(Farmington,NY, an early one before he moved to MT.) and the Pedersoli would outshoot the Shiloh. I could consistently hit a head size boulder at 800 Yds if I did my job. I bought the high dollar Montana Vintage arms sights for it and it was aces. I sold the Shiloh and kept the Pedersoli. Ii eventually sold it too, and I have regretted it since. and am now looking for another one.
If You can get the Pedersoli either their Sharps or their Rolling block Copy I'd go that route.

I have had two armi sport  sharps. One, a carbine in 45/70  and  a  "berdan -double set triggers"  rifle in 45/70. Both exceeded expectations.

Like others I can't comment on the Armi. But the Pedersoli has been around a long time. It's barrel has even won a few BP matches, on a few occasions. I have one and to be honest it will shoot as good as either of my Shilohs - but I am a poor shot at 100 - 200 yds, hardly the test of a quality rifle.

The Pedersoli looks nice, it seems to be put together well, although the shape of the forend is goofy, Italians can't seem to look at an original and copy it for who knows what reason, and the screws seem soft since any attempt at hardening has always been a foreign concept to those guys. But other than that I think it is worth the money and you would be satisfied with it (get out a some sand paper if the forend bothers you, and you can buy new screws).

Are the Shilohs worth the money, absolutely. In my opinion they are built that much better and look it. SO......., if you are sure that you will never, and I mean never invest in a Shiloh then by all means buy the Pedersoli and be happy with it. But if there is the slightest, and I mean slightest doubt - wait a bit longer and tell the kid your investing his college money. Otherwise you will end up owning two Sharps rifles, the one you bought to save money and the one you really wanted. Been there. :D

Having bared my soul on this issue I don't want you to think that the Pedersoli is low rent, mine is a nice gun.

Major 2

I have to echo Halfway Creek Charlie comments...

I've owned a Pedersoli , a Shiloh and a Garrett.... of the three

The Garrett was the most faithful reproduction ( of the 54Cal. Cavalry Carbine ) high quality.
My Pedersoli was a 45/70 74 Mil. Carbine and a great shooter , very good quality as well.

Now I wish I could say the same of my Shiloh ...( a Burdan Mil. Rifle )
Though solid built, fit,  wood to metal was lacking.
In fact the stock was a poor selection of Walnut , Grain ran across the wrist and it was weak.
It cracked, and all Shiloh would do (after much correspondence with photo's)
is send me a replacement , I had to fit it or pay someone to do it.
Sorry this is not to bash Shiloh ... I'm not to keen on their Customer service though.

I have owned several Armi Sport arms .. a Springfiled Musket & a Spencer I felt they were of good value.
So I'd think the Armi Sport Sharps would be the same.

If push came to shove , I'd have to say the Pedersoli is the better value ....
mine was very well crafted fit and finish , I'd buy another one.

Long Johns Wolf

I owned a Sharps from Armi Sport with 32" octagon barrel and a set trigger. Beautiful case colors, pretty blue. Was shooting it at distance up to 500 yds with factory sights, did OK. Had later diopter sights installed but at that time only ranges up to 200 yds were available to me. Did OK again.
Good value for the money!
Kicked like a mule with factory hunting loads (400 gr. bullets) but was a pussy with 300 gr cowboy loads. Sold it off 2 years back, one of my many mistakes. The current owner is happy with it, uses it for long-range competition.

Four-Eyed Buck

My favorte shop owner used the Armi's. He couldn't keep a personal gun. Every season he'd get one set up and by the end of it, he had people bugging him to sell it to them. they're not as flashy as the Pedersoli's, but will shoot with the right load...........Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

quigleysharps4570

I've had the Pedersoli Quigley model for several years now...a few thousand rounds thru her with no complaints to speak of. Been a good ole rifle.  ;)
Hoping to own a Shiloh one day...real lookers.

Tombstone Marshal

I have a Springfield 1842 smoothbore musket made by Armi Sport. The fit and finish is really good and the wood is very red in color. It came with a polished bare metal barrel, and it takes a bit of work keeping it that wayl. I am looking at their Quigley model, and if it has the quality that my musket came with I will be vary happy. Well as long as it shoots good too. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Pitspitr

I have 2 Pedersoli's; a Sharps, and a Springfield Long Range. Can't comment on the Armi.

As to the Pedersoli's if you want a 100% historically accurate copy or you're really worried about what the guy in the next bay has to say, get an American. If you're not concerned about the shape of the fore end or the internal workings of the lock and a few other minor details and just want a good shooting sharps, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with a Pedersoli. My Springfield LR is a better shooter than any original I've ever shot and my Sharps will shoot better than my eyes will allow.

Frrom what I've read about the diffrent brands of Sharps model rifles I classify them thusly. Just my opinion mind you as I have only handled a Pedersoli.
#1 custom made for you and you alone!
#2
a) Shiloh Sharps (interchangeable in ranking)
b) C. Sharps
c)Axtell
#3 Pedersoli
# 4 all others

I'm not sure if a, b and c are custom made to the indiviual or not, perhaps they can be if one has the money.
