Stopped by my FFL this afternoon and picked up my Second RM. The first was one I bought a few weeks back and is an 1860 RM Conversion in 38 SPL. It was brand new in the box. This "new" (to me anyways) RM is an 1851 RM Conversion in 38 SPL. I was worried about how my hands would feel as I really like the bigger 1860 grip, but this 1851 feels really natural, actually much better than the grip on my Pietta 1862 Army Police. I'm hard pressed to say which one is better now, so I guess I'll pair them up this next weekend when I try my second match in Tyler, Tx. The really neat thing is that I bought this 1851 RM for about 2/3 rds what I paid for the 1860. No regrets! And yes, Major 2, I'm hooked bad!! Anyone want to buy a Taurus Gaucho? ;D ;D ;D

Better check your arbor length if they are Ubertis. I've had to lengthen all of my Uberti arbors. If you don't they seize up if you're shooting BP...in fact one of mine would seize up shooting smokeless.

I have four '51 Richards-Masons, two 7 1/2" and two charcoal blue 5 1/2".  One of them would lock up shooting BP.  It had a bit of cylinder end-shake and the hand was pushing the cylinder forward at full-cock which reduced the cylinder to barrel gap to nearly nothing.  I bent the hand spring so it wasn't pushing forward as much and took a wee bit off the rear of the barrel.  Voila, problem solved!  YMMV.  I will say that a lot of the Opentops and conversions from Uberti aren't fit as well as they could be and require a bit of tweaking, particularly for BP.

I love the looks of the octagonal barrel on the '51's and the Navy grips fit my small hands great.  I often shoot the 5 1/2" pair gunfighter style and have no problems reaching the hammers.

Enjoy your guns, Preacher!

Major 2

AH yep ! it's addictive  ;D

Funny you should mention it...I too, just traded for a 1851 RM Conversion in 38 SPL. myself.
I am a 60 Army grip fan too... your right about the grip it feels just fine to me.
