Does anyone notice the one feature of this low # OT that is unusual for such a low #?  ;)

Typically the early OT's had internal loading gate springs, but some had external one's. Did I get it right? ??? If so what did I win?  :D

two things appeared to perk my brain cells

the shape of the extractor with it's serrations, and the brass silverplated Navy Grip frame.

Actually, if you highlight the photo on the right that shows the left side you'll notice what appears to be the larger SAA style hammer screw. This is my "beef" with the McDowell book. He says that this style hammer did not come into being until mid 1873 yet OT #6 (made in Spring 1872) in his book has one as well as other scattered serial #'s before mid-1873. Why would Colt sporadically be using a larger hammer screw a full year before switching to it completely? I never could figure that out. Oh well.  :-\

As for hammer screws, Colt may have been experimenting and sold off even the test models after the changeover.  They never wasted parts, and if they had small hammer screws and frames drilled for the smaller screw, they used them until they were gone.  It's almost surprising there weren't SAA Peacemakers with the smaller screws.

There may hardly have been two alike for that matter.
