Gents,
I need some help identifying this revolver. I bought it as a"parts' gun.
The barrel is stamped COLT'S PT F.A. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. and COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45
The cylinder has the Colt horse stamped on the loading side.
The frame has the two line patent info and Colt horse stamped on it and the S./N 168227 UPSIDE Down.
The pistol is in like new shape. A friend thinks it is a repro frame with a 3rd generation Colt barrel and cylinder.
Any help or opinions woukld be appreciated.

Around 20-25 years ago, there was an outfit called  'U.S. Frame Specialists' that was producing a Model P frame.

They were available through a very few select dealers, with the idea of being able to create Single Action Armys from spares, and they looked a lot like what you've pictured.

If I remember correctly - they offered it with either stye of barrel threads, to take advantage of the then-new Third Generation's parts.

I think they were unmarked, as to patent dates - but that information is lost in the Mists of Time.

'Correct' barrels were also offered at that time - featuring the period type of rifling - but they weren't advertised to be 'shooting' barrels - more along the lines of something that looked 'right' for a restored piece, but wasn't intended to create a fake.

St George,

Thanks for the info.  The barrel and cylinder look like 3rd generation parts to me, do you agree?
If they are 3rd gen colt, then smokeless cowboy loads would be OK, right.
thanks again,

I'd certainly think so - all else being equal - tight lock-up, cylinder properly indexing, et al.

I almost bought one of the frames years ago, to use for my .45ACP cylinder I'd had chambered by John Kopec (most likely by Eddie Janis, of today's 'Peacemaker Specialties'), and have an extra single action.

I had all the spares needed, the frame looked good - and then I found that that cylinder was a perfect fit for all my Colts, so I dropped the idea.

I figured that serendipity won out in my case.

Good Luck.

The barrel and cylinder appear to be second generation.
Please post some pics of the front of the cylinder. Also does it have a removeable bushing?
I would also like to see the other side of the frame and a closeup of the seriail number area (frame and grip frame).

Definately 2nd gen cylinder. Probably 2nd gen barrel.
I don't like the way the loading gate is in the frame........even the Italians look better!
The serial numbering at first glance appears correct for Colt, as do the patenat dates.
I'll print these pics and compare to some originals in my collection and some "not originals".

My first impression is parts gun for sure. How was it sold to you? Original, not, buyer beware, etc........
Hey if you can email all of those pics in a large format (I have DSL) to:

Maybe we can get to the bottom of this!
