A friend of mine has an Italian made Dakota SAA in 45 Colt. The bolt was never fitted properly and the notches in the cylinder are hogged out to the point where it needs a new cylinder. The date stamp [AF] shows it being made in 1980. Who made the Dakotas and what does he need to know about it to order the correct replacement?

I have one of the earlier models , got mine in 1966, and it's a Jeager Dakota, imported then my Intercontinental, and the screws and such are metric and a different size and wont fit the later Dakota's , a good source of information on the Dakota's is with E.M.F. they still sell the Dakota, you can give them a call , I talked to Becky down there , and she was a big help to me , I don't have the name or the number riight at this time , of the guy she turned me on to , but if E.M.F. can't help you , this guy probably can , I'll look around and see if I can find it .

The current Dakotas are or were being made by Uberti, and those made in the 1980s MAY have been made by Armi San Marco (ASM) and I'm not sure if the parts spec out the same.

Thanks, VG. I'm having him photo all the stamps and markings so I may be able to identify the manufacturer from those.

Hello Will

Hears the company that E.M.F. recommended to me , for my Intercontinental Arms Dakota, which is in Hammerli, Switzerland, my gun is also known as a Jeager Dakota, I know their have been several makers of this gun , you just need to find out which one this is, This guy is known as the Dakota Gurue,if he can't help you then I'm sure E.M.F. probably can. GOOD LUCK.

Marshal Will

this is one of 2 Dakotas I have (this was one of the California Kits) I got both of them 1981-82 and they both are Jagers. ASM started making them some what after that, like maybe late 80's. The trigger guard and backstrap on this gun actually is ASM I just couldn't stand the brass any longer. My other one I got with the steel tg/bs and it cost me about $50 dealer cost.

Hope that helps

That does help, Curley. Thanks. I'll call superior and talk it over with them.

I agree on the brass. It just doesn't do it for me, either.

So, a quick call to Superior Ind. netted a grand solution. For $35, he'll re-cut the notches in the cylinder. Thanks, Ten Wolves. Great contact information.
