I've been reading a lot lately about the softness of Pietta's blued steel and am wondering if their stainless is any harder. Normally, stainless is softer than say, 4130 carbon steel, as is used in many cartridge guns. But the cap & ball steels aren't 4130, and so I'm wondering if Pietta's stainless would be more durable. Big Iron Barrels, the now infamous company from Ohio, used to recommend Italian stainless over Italian C&B blued steel.

I have two stainless steel Great Western ll sixguns 45 long Colt, made by Pietta, and I haven't had any problems, the guns are like they say, Great  :D ;D I like them better than the blued guns out there , just because I like the way they look , and the fact that they are much more  maintenance friendly, and handle the elements a lot better, it doesn't bother me to much if they get a little rain on them, or if I don't wipe them down right away , I do anyway , but it's the option I guess, that Ilike. I wouldn't say that my blued guns were any stronger than my stainless steel guns by any means. I might mention too that I find they sight better for me , and I can sight them easer in low light or night time, the front sight just seems to show up easer. This is off the subject , but I thought I would through it in .
