Hi Pards

Since Hartford is no longer making the pistols I think I need a back-up pistols :o
I have two Hartford Rem 75s in .45 colt.

For the back-up pistols I'm considering: Taylors model '58 conversions, or EMF Rem 75s
Which would be a better choice?

Oooooh what a dilema ;D

The answer is simple. Get both.  ;D

I shoot '58's with conversion cylinders. I had an EMF '75. I like the feel of the '58's better. On a '58, the hammer has a shorter throw, the gun is lighter and it balances better (balance being my opinion). Since you're already used to the Hartfords, however, you may want to pick up the EMF's as they will be closer to them.

I have the Forged Frame Factory Conversion ... fine pistol,  :) and I can vouch for Susanne Webb at Uberti & customer service.

The USPA is another choice, but it's another year away at least, according to USPA.
I was told at Shot last Jan. (about 2 years he said)....  :-X ... word has trickeled down to mention maybe by late summer 08 however.. :-\ and it will be about $1200 I'm told.

I have the EMF(UBERTI) 1875 in 45 nickle plate.
GREAT gun!
Use it for everything from plinking ,to deer and rabbit hunting.
It shoots poa with 8.5 gr. unique and a 255gr. swc at 25 yards.
Never tried black powder in it.
I've had it for about 5 years with no pronlems at all with it.
Smooth action and great fit and finnish on it.

I just replaced the mainspring in my 1875 Uberti from EMF with a VTI lighter spring.  Wow,  does that make a huge difference.  Now I dont have to have help cocking it!!   ;D

Well only Gary Granger can really answer that question, but I have heard within a year.  I am still waiting for more information to appear on the USFA website.   Regards, Deadeye.
