I bought an American Derringer .38 Spl Model 1.
It was used, and the shop owner told me the hammer spring (main spring) had been replaced for lighter trigger.I have the factory spring and want to re-install it because the lighter trigger makes the gun unreliable when firing. It will occasionally not fire the second cartridge.
Has anyone ever replaced one of these springs and can you tell me how to do it?
I am no gunsmith, but I have been a tinkerer for 35 years or so, and at first glance it seems straightforward.
OTOH, I really like this gun, and don't want to screw it up.
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Super simple.  Take off the grips.  Grab the spring plunger with your fingers.  (One on each side of the frame works good.)  Pull the plunger up and push it out of the frame.  Replace the spring, slip on the plunger and push it back in the frame into its seat.

Thanks for the response...I just completed the job before I came online today.
Took 30 minutes to look at, overnight to think about it, 45 seconds to do it.
Much heavier trigger/hammer, but I doubt it will misfire in the future.

Thanks again.
FWIW, IMO  this American Derringer Model 1 is a very simple, rugged, well made little
firearm, and I think the .38 special should have enough power for any use.
Wouldn't mine shooting a .45LC, though....
