BS thanks for that info.

Buf Arms is actually sending me some 44-40 brass that has been made into 11mm french - so maybe I might get into making bullets - but I have to admit if the round ball cartridges work well at cowboy ranges - I will probably stick with those - due to the ease in which I could make them.

There is a big gun show this weekend here that is more of a historical gun show than others - my eyes will be open for those RCBS dies, bullets, shells, and ready ammo.

Who knows I might even find a mate for the one I have.

Two would be way cool!

I think those Roundball loads sound like the cat's meow!  It's not like you're gonna go to WAR with that revolver!  Hell, even the M9 loaded with 9mm might be better than that!  ;)  Besides, speaking as one who's been at the receiving end of a gun, I   wouldn't wanna get shot with one of those 11mm roundball loads!!!!  I b'lieve it'd tend to ruin yer day!  :D ;D

I know a pard that loaded round balls in .45 Colt cases fer his Remington cartridge conversion cylinder.

Can't testify to anything other than .36 caliber RBs but those things work very well out of a cartridge.  Made 'em up for giggles 'n they became my main match stuff.

I often shoot .454 RBs loaded over a wax disc and BP in .45 S&W cases.  Works great.

The Elderly Kid

Many years ago I had an early Remington '75 replica chambered for .45 Colt. The only .45 Colt ammo I had handy was RNL and they were about 1/5" too long to allow the cylinder to rotate. So I filed them down and fired them but quickly got tired of doing that so I employed a high-tech reloading system I found in the back of the Dixie Gun Works catalog. I got a high-tech nail and used it to punch the primers out. Then I set the shells over a primer on top of a chunk of 2"X4" and stuck a similarly high-tech piece of wooden dowel into them and hammered them down until the primer was seated. Then I poured them full of Pyrodex (no Holy Black available) and with my high-tech thumb mashed a round ball down on top. They shot fine, in fact, a bit more accurately than the factory ammo. I wonder how many people in the old days used just such expedients to supplement their expensive factory ammo.

Quite a few, I'd bet!  (IF they had any 'spensive factory ammo AT ALL!)

Ya said sumthin' 'bout castin' while back.  Gottah Lee mold that dumps a .454 ball 'n a conical.  Ya thinkin' ah startin' ta play with liquid lead ya kin have the thing.  I ain't gonna use it no more.
