Never seen a 10 year old book priced quite like this.  :o  Guess it is whatever the market will bear.  ;D

Now if it was a book on converting lead into gold......

Dusty,
That one is the cheapest I've seen, Amazon has one for $400.00! Even though it's expensive, it is worth the money. I was really lucky, one of my pards made me (told me I better buy it if I was going to collect Conversions) buy one in 1998. I paid $40.00 at the KC Gunshow for mine. I would not sell it now for either price.
I hope Roger Phillips new book "Remington Large Bore Conversion Pistols" does the same. I know you have one of those right? I got mine, you got your's?

I also have Dennis Adler's Metallic Cartridge Conversion book.

Even the 'Buy It Now' price is fair, since these typically go for that - 'plus' a C-Note, or better.

That's the problem when the author dies and there's no more available on the primary market - that secondary market can be tough...

When I talked to Roger Phillips he told me that McDowell bought up a lot of his books from the publisher as he was in process of writing a second edition, Roger was going to do the Remington Section with Bruce. Then McDowell died and hence Roger had to self publish hisportion as a stand alone book. I wonder what happened to the books that McDowell bought back, or whether he just bought back the rights, which means they weren't printed..... Would love to stumbe upon that stash if it exists.

Roger's book is a great companion to McDowell's book especially if you are a collector of Remington Conversions.

I bought Adler's book.  It will have to do. ;D

Dusty, I hear ya. I checked with our local library and they have a copy of McDowell's. Think I'll check it out and see what all the fuss is about. Adler's book is on ebay for $19.95. Sounds like the way to go for me anyway.

Adler's is a good book - make no mistake - and most who collect Conversions or are interested in them and the era they represent own a copy.

However - McDowell's is a great book and is also a scholarly work for the serious Conversion collector, and information overload is possible.

By all means - get a copy of Adler - and if you can get it from the Library in an Inter-Library Loan - read a copy of McDowell.

And keep your eyes open, since they do pop up at times.

Just picked McDowell's book up at the library. Looks very interesting. Know I'll have my nose buried in it all night. They let me keep it until July 5th. I may have to pay a late fee as I'll be away at that time or see if I can check it out again.

Cincy Slim

I just checked out "Colt Conversions" from the HamCo Public library here in Cincy.

Gotta say, I'm mighty impressed ! 8)

WHOLE lot of information here, gonna soak up all I can before I have to turn it back in.

Happy Trails,

CS,
Get ready to pay a lot of late fees. I've had mine since 1997 (paid $40.00 or so for it) and I haven't "soaked" it all up yet.
I use it at least once a month to do research. I'm seeing something new every time I use it.

JM,

If you have a good price on that book it'll like sell in a hurry. if it's top dollar then it won't sell that fast.

I have seen them from $250.00 to $400.00.

I have a copy of McDowell's book that I am done reading. It is an excellent work, but have lost interest in original conversions. Email me a reasonable offer and it could be yours.
