Hi.  Would like some info on aftermarket grips for my Pietta 1860 Army...faux ivory, some exotic wood, etc.  Is anyone using them on their 60's and are you a happy camper?  Have been doing a bunch of drooling over the American Hollly grips on the Klamath River Woodworkers site:

Thanks.

gripmaker.com makes some that are pretty nice and reasonably priced. Pattern selection seems to be limited for our 1860s. I'm kinda leaning toward the "wing" design.

Howdy!

I just got a set of Stag grips from Larry at Gripmaker.

Mine are the same coloration, 'cept for they're for a Remington, not a RuBis.  He has a picture of them for a Remington on his website, but this picture shows more color - like what the grips have.  The pattern and the work are the same.  Are you good at working wood or plastic?  You'd better be.  Mine are more work than I thought, but considering the price, very reasonable, because beyond about 2 feet, they look like some of the most beautiful stag you've ever seen!    I THINK he will, for a price, fit them for you, but don't quote me.  Mine are more work than a Colt would be due to the way they fit the frame.  AND he sent along a beautiful right side panel to practice on!  He includes good directions, so if you have ANY talent in this direction, the job should end up great!

When I finish the ones I have, I'm probably gonna order another set.  Or two!  Also, I think his service is great:  I called him and ordered on Friday and had the grips the following Wednesday!

No - I DON"T get a commission from Larry - I just like dealing with him!  ;D

What with winter coming on you might need a project to help pass those long evenings.
I made a set of these for my SAA and I love the way they look but didn't like the feel so I put the original wood grips back on and was going to order another set of the faux in an elkhorn pattern but then found a nice chunk of real elkhorn and am in the process of building a set out of that.

Check out the site, see if you find something you like. You can also look at the instructions for installing his grip kits.

Thanks for the Kudos guys. Since there are 8 different sizes and configurations of 1860 Army grips (all the way from Uberti, Pietta and ASM regulars to the same for conversions and Open Tops) it can get a little hectic keeping up with these. However, with a gripframe tracing we have been able to comply with our orders quite nicely. Nozzle Rag, I now have a process that can put just about all of our designs on the 1860 Army grips so don't hold back ;>).

God Bless and shoot safe, Y'all.
