Two Flints

Welcome BoonieRat,

Welcome to SSS.  Glad I could help ;D ;D ;D  Thanks also to the Marshal and Camille for their help in getting you on the Spencer posse :D :D  Photos of your two Spencers would be VERY NICE to see here on SSS.  Regarding your two Spencers;  both seem to have a Kentucky history.

Your Spencer rifle was issued to a member of Comapny H, 28th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry on or about Jan 10, 1865.

Your Spencer Carbine was issued to a member of Company B, 4th Kentucky Mounted Infantry on or about March 13, 1865.

Hope this is what you were looking for in the way of information.

Thanks for the welcome and an even bigger thanks for the information! I have already thanked Marshal and Camille for their help. If all of you are any indication of the dedication to this site, I am going to enjoy this forum. I'll see if this computer technology challenged fellow can get you some photos of the Spencers.

BoonieRat,

Along with the photos, it would be interesting to read how you came by two Spencers with such a close Kentucky history and background  ;D ;D

Take care,

???could you tell me anything about sn/28630? Also where I can find a gunsmith? Found cf breach block at BACO for $172.

Copus,

Already sent you an Email on your serial #?  Didn't you get it?  Ahwww, heck, here it is:

Hi Copus,

Thanks for joining SSS.  You have an original Spencer, serial # 28630.  I checked my records, and I HAVE AN EXACT MATCH for your Spencer rifle.  It was assigned to a member of Company E,  148th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on or about October, 1864.  I don't often get an exact serial # match.

Got to ask, you do have a Spencer rifle, don't you?

OK?

Two Flints, thanks for the info. So far it is only an action. There is a butstock with plate and magazine, but the wood is shot. I have the rear sight but no front sight. It looks like somepne put a new lock on it but it doesnt fit quite rite. There is one screw hole on the left side of the action tha t has been bored out so will have to re tap it. I'm going to order a cf block in a couple of weeks. Can only buy parts when THE check comes in. You asked where I lived, well Chicago with king Richard. So this isnt going to be easy. I have a CPD Lt. living very near me and he has an original dragoon, so may be ok. He carrys it to work. He says that no one gives him any trouble when they see it. Thanks. ::)

This is assuming these are 1860 Models.  According to Marcot, they restarted the serial numbers at one for the 1865 Spencer carbine, 1865 Burnside carbine, 1865 rifle and I think some others(it's really late).   My 1865 rifle is 2121.
